U.S. software mogul John McAfee dies

U.S. technology entrepreneur John McAfee hanged himself in his prison cell on Wednesday after the Spanish high court authorised his extradition to the United States on tax evasion charges, his lawyer told Reuters.

Known for his eccentric behaviour, McAfee, 75, was a pioneer of anti-virus software, introducing his eponymous program in the 1980s. He had been indicted in Tennessee on tax evasion charges. He also was charged in a cryptocurrency fraud case in New York.

McAfee was arrested in the Barcelona airport then jailed there in October. Prison authorities were investigating the cause of death.

Spain's high court agreed to extradite McAfee to the United States, a court document released on Wednesday said. The provincial justice department confirmed that a U.S. man aged 75 was found dead in his cell on Wednesday.

McAfee still had opportunities to appeal his conviction but could not stand more time in jail, the lawyer Javier Villalba said. "This is the result of a cruel system that had no reason to keep this man in jail for so long," Villalba said.

During a court hearing last month, McAfee said that given his age, he would spend the rest of his life in jail if he were to be convicted in the United States. "I am hoping that the Spanish court will see the injustice of this," he said, adding "the United States wants to use me as an example."

He didn't die of a virus, so his software worked.

Haven't used McAffee or Norton antivirus since the Windows 98SE era.  slowed down the system too much and created  too many files using up hard drive space.  What a laugh, get the messages that certain malware / viruses (i.e. Speedy.bat Natal.pif) couldn't be removed and had to be  quarantined.    Found their  Achilles' heel, were totally inert under the true DOS mode selection at bootup.  Used ATTRIB to change the properties to Achieve then delete...bye bye.

Dead or witness protection?  It looks like yet another well-protected mainstream media story, with some "proofs" that are more difficult to believe than anything else.  That and the apparent controlled demolition of the two parts of the FL condo.  First one part, and then the other, in perfect succession and they both fell straight down.  Exactly like a demo crew would do, with all the main supports failing at exactly the right times...  (If you haven't seen the actual security cam video of this, it is out there)  https://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/video-shows-wing-of-surfside-condo-building-collapse-in-seconds/2479955/

Mac OS...really??  So our "folk hero" Bill Gates somehow was allowed to stick his nose into that too?  Granted that was before they adopted the Linux-like BSD (Berkeley Software Distribution) as an OS core (aka "OS X") and began using an Intel architecture (power pc).   :D
