I have listed suggestions for many of the daily themes for September in the At-A-Glance schedule that was posted yesterday. Please refer to: http://escapepress.com/tcmsched/tcm_overview.html At this time there are still many gaps in the schedule (marked 'TBA' in the document). I will fill these in as information is provided. 1
sewhite2000
Thanks for the help. People work a lot harder at this than me. I just regurgitate the information already provided by others for the benefit of the extremely lazy. Daytime September 1 Back to School. Sadly, this isn't 12 airings of the Rodney Daingerfield comedy back to back! Finishing School (Frances Dee, Ginger Rogers) (RKO, 1934)Freshman Love (Patricia Ellis, Warren Hull) (Warner Bros., 1936)Dramatic School (Luise Rainer, Paulette Godard) (MGM, 1938)Goodbye, Mr. Chips (Robert Donat, Greer Garson) (MGM, 1939)The Male Animal (Henry Fonda, Olivia DeHavilland) (Warner Bros., 1942)The Browning Version (Jean Kent, Nigel Patrick) (Dist. in the US by Universal-International, 1951)The Affairs of Dobie Gillis (Debbie Reynolds, Bobby Van) (MGM, 1953)Get Yourself a College Girl (Mary Ann Mobley, Chad Everett) (MGM, 1964)
sewhite2000
Primetime September 1. I haven't figured out the theme, but I'll list the movies, and maybe somebody smarter than me can figure it out. My guess is the most famous on-screen couples of the studio era? They Died with Their Boots On (Errol Flynn, Olivia DeHavilland) (Warner Bros., 1941)Key Largo (Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall) (Warner Bros., 1948)The Barkleys of Broadway (Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers) (MGM, 1949)Mogambo (Clark Gable, Ava Gardner) (MGM, 1953)Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? (Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn) (Columbia, 1967)

sewhite2000
Primetime January 2 The End of the Silent Era. There's only one film actually from that era being shown. The rest of the movies are either set in or make allusions to that era. Not being shown is The Artist, the recent, mostly silent Best Picture winner, though I'm pretty sure it's been a part of 31 Days of Oscar at least once. TCM is, however, showing Hugo, so there's at least one extremely recent movie for the curmudgeons to complain about. The Jazz Singer (Al Jolson, May McAvoy) (Warner Bros., 1927)Sunset Blvd. (William Holden, Gloria Swanson) (Paramount, 1950)Singin' in the Rain (Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds) (MGM, 1952)The Comic (Dick Van Dyke, Michele Lee) (Columbia, 1969)Hugo (Asa Butterfield, Chloe Grace Moretz) (Paramount, 2011)

(Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn) (Columbia, 1967) More specifically, I think the theme here is the last movies of famous on-screen couples. These are the final films Flynn & De Havilland, Bogart & Bacall, Astaire & Rogers and Tracy & Hepburn made together. 1
sewhite2000
Yep, last films, good call! Unsure about Mogambo, which may be the only Gable-Gardner pairing. But they both made lots of films and may have worked together in other films I don't know about.
sewhite2000
Daytime September 3 Alan Ladd Birthday Tribute. I was pretty excited when I saw this choice, because I thought most of the films he made didn't end up in the Turner library. But, ho-hum, the TCM programmers just chose all the ones that DID. Who knew he worked at Warners so much? The Iron Mistress (Alan Ladd, Virginia Mayo) (Warner Bros., 1952)Drum Beat (Alan Ladd, Audrey Dalton) (Warner Bros., 1954)The McConnell Story (Alan Ladd, June Allyson) (Warner Bros., 1955)Santiago (Alan Ladd, Rosanna Podesta) (Warner Bros., 1956)The Big Land (Alan Ladd, Virginia Mayo) (Warner Bros., 1957)The Deep Six (Alan Ladd, Dianne Foster) (Warner Bros., 1958)Guns of the Timberland (Alan Ladd, Jeanne Crain) (Warner Bros., 1960)

Unsure of the connection, though a drag show may play into the plot of the first movie.
