I have seen many photos of Marilyn Monroe because she rather fascinates me, but I think that must be one of the saddest because she looks so happy holding that little boy.

She looks like that in just about any picture of her with children.

I always liked Turhan Bey.  He was a happy guy.  He walked away from Hollywood when he figured it was time, was different things after that ... a diplomat in Turkey, a photographer.  I saw him in an interview not long ago and he was quite satisfied with the way his life had gone.  He did tons of movies.  My favorite was always the one where he played a phony magician called Mr. X.  Spoooooky.

Elizabeth Taylor:  I knew someone who met her at Scripps Clinic in La Jolla when she was there for a short stay.  He was a very sophisticated young man who had been around, but he told me when he saw her, her beauty was like being punched in the stomach.  He couldn't believe how beautiful her eyes were.  She was quite nice to him as well, and he couldn't stop talking about her for weeks.  (I have a lavender shirt, and when I wear it I tell people it's my Elizabeth Taylor shirt, and I look just like her in it.  That's what I tell them.)

I met Elizabeth Taylor and spent a few hours with her. She was incredibly gorgeous and yes her eyes were a shade of purple, a color I've never seen since on anyone and so very beautiful. She was as sweet and lovely as could be to me.  That was almost 50 years ago and I will always treasure that memory.

Yesterdays birthday boys Lon Chaney & Wallace Beery Goof off on the MGM lot in this rare candid_zpscfch59yh.png

Interesting shot of Chaney and Beery, especially with both of them displaying a playful side to their personalities, something that I don't associate with either one of them. The Big House, the 1930 MGM prison drama that finally made a major star of Beery, had previously been regarded as a potential Chaney vehicle.

Birthday boy Buddy Ebsen as the original Tin Man in the "Wizard of Oz"
( he was offered the role of the scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz (1939). Ebsen agreed to change roles with Ray Bolger, who was cast as the Tin Man. Ebsen subsequently became ill from the aluminum make-up, however, and was replaced by Jack Haley.)
