Andrew Yang says he officially left the Democratic Party

Andrew Yang announced on Monday that he changed his voter registration from "Democrat" to "Independent," calling the move a "strangely emotional experience."

What he's saying: While Yang said he has identified as a Democrat for years and has "dozens of friends and confidantes who are entrenched in the Democratic Party," he is "confident that no longer being a Democrat is the right thing."

"My goal is to do as much as I can to advance our society. There are phenomenal public servants doing great work every day — but our system is stuck. It is stuck in part because polarization is getting worse than ever," Yang said.

He said he has always been at odds with the Democratic Party: "I’m not very ideological. I’m practical. Making partisan arguments — particularly expressing what I often see as performative sentiment — is sometimes uncomfortable for me."

"I’m actually more comfortable trying to fix the system than being a part of it."

The big picture: Yang's announcement comes a day before his book, "Forward: Notes on the Future of Our Democracy," is set to be released.

****************************************************

Andrew was a media darling, they never questioned a word of his socialist views. His universal basic income sounded straight out of the former Soviet Union. Instead of a thousand dollars, it should have been a thousand Rubles.

You are so right, MOVIEMADNESS,  Andrew Yang got kid glove treatment from the media while he was with their preferred party.  I wonder-- will their tender regard for him undergo at first a tiny shift, gradually widening to a complete break?   Could be amusing.   But since he seems to be still yearning toward the Dems, more in sorrow than in anger, etc., (gack) maybe they will endow him with "maverick" status and let him be.

But does Yang want the media to let him be?   I assume NOT!       But now that he is party less,   most of the media will ignore him.     Oh well,  the guy was clueless  anyhow.

I don't remember him being a darling, but when has MSM ever called out a democrat for being extreme? My god if Bernie and the squad aren't too extreme for them, no one the other side of Stalin could be.

In 2019, Beto fans complained that Buttigeig (I can't spell his name and I ain't looking it up) got fawning press (and boy would they know!), and Yang gangers complained the media was favoring Beto.

Of the Dems I heard during the debates, Yang was one of two (I think the other one was from Colorado) I found the most sincere-but-not-radical guys. The income thing was really just a tax refund advance.

I like him.
