"Rogue One" (2016) is one of the best prequels to date from the 1977 film.

 

Star Wars I  III is the beginning of the story which Lucas started in the middle with The New Hope.

"Rogue One" was a new idea not based on the main story to answer questions.

I needed to Google that, had no idea "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" was a prequel.

Some info...The film takes Indy on an adventure to India, where he encounters the evil Mola Ram and his cult. According to George Lucas, the decision to make the film a prequel boils down to the fact that the creators didn't want to use Nazis as the bad guys again.

I never thought of it as a prequel either.  Just having his adventures(or misadventures  ) in some other locale.

Some interesting trivia regarding "Raiders of The Lost Ark".  Even though it's fiction, the Nazi's due to their mystical beliefs did went across the globe looking for relics, artifacts believing they may yield power to those whom held them i.e. the Spear of Destiny.

 

The Ark of The Covenant would had been their atomic bomb.
