Buttigieg on paternity leave since mid-August amid supply chain crunch

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has been on paternity leave since mid-August – with his time off coming amid the Biden administration's efforts to quell the supply chain crunch and the ongoing infrastructure debate on Capitol Hill to move forward with President Biden's agenda.

Buttigieg's office told Politico Playbook this week that he has been off since mid-August to spend time with his husband, Chasten, as they welcomed two newborn babies.

"For the first four weeks, he was mostly offline except for major agency decisions and matters that could not be delegated," a spokesperson for the Department of Transportation told Politico Playbook this week. "He has been ramping up activities since then."

The spokesperson said that as he slowly gets back to the grind, Buttigieg will "continue to take some time over the coming weeks to support his husband and take care of his new children."

Buttigieg's time off comes as the Biden administration grapples with supply chain bottlenecks and amid efforts to ease shipping backlogs.

Supply chain issues are a source of mounting concern as global economies attempt to meet surging demand and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. Shortages of basic household items, such as toilet paper, raw materials needed for construction and critical tech components, like semiconductors, have contributed to a surge in prices for consumers.

Biden and his team were on vacation when the Afghanistan crisis hit, and Pete Buttigieg is now on "paternity leave" while the supply chain crisis hits. With zero experience in transportation, he has no clue how to fix it either.

It's Fox News who made the OP comment. (MM as usual don't state the source)

I said don't blame Buttigieg orBiden.

Wait until people don't get whats ordered for the holidays - tempers will squash any past equal rights beliefs.

During Christmas 1967 (I was nine) we had no toys on Christmas day because everybody in our family and extended family was ill with a particularly bad flu. It was a sad day at the time, but it taught me a valuable lesson that Christmas is not about stuff.  We got our presents a few days later when the adults could walk around again.  So I have been in the position that some children may be in when they don't get what they want for Christimas on Christmas day. And believe me, they'll be fine.

You are a mature adult but greatly under estimate how spoiled the average American is.  Hate to see this upcoming Black Friday!

Agreed! This is the most homophobic set of posts I've ever seen. There is such a thing as "working from home". Maybe they expect Secretary Buttigieg to go to the Port of LA and unload those ships himself?

innocent babies deserve loving mothers not twisted pc insanity.

even a prostitute with strong maternal instincts would be better than that.

That is an odd photo. Are they in a hospital bed? And is he wearing a hospital wrist band? To look like he just gave birth?

As BTC points out the GOP, the party of family values has lined up behind Donald Trump who has paid more hush money to bunnies and porn stars than most people will see in their entire lives.

The supply chain problem belongs completely to private industry, top to bottom.

The Republicans want smaller government and now they are begging for government intervention into private industry's problems in the ports, trucking and the demand issues of goods.

Another fake government crisis.  That said, the Biden administration is stepping up to try to alleviate the problem.

The babies were born premature, and had to stay in the hospital in incubators.  So yes, they are in the hospital, and therefore, may be wearing hospital wristbands while staying there round the clock.  They are not trying to pretend he/they gave birth.
