I do remember reading a quote from Connery that broke some protocol, as actors generally don't mention roles they turned down out of respect for the actors who ended up taking the roles (oh, maybe once in a blue moon if they're being highly complimentary of the actors who did end up playng the parts). But Connery straight up said he turned down roles for Lord of the Rings (that went to Ian McKellan) and Star Wars (that went to Christopher Lee), becausse he didn't understand the scripts. So, when League of Extraordinary Gentlemen came along, even though he didn't understand it, either, he thought, "By God, I'm not turning down another one!" (which I imagine him saying in that brogue of his). But when it got trashed by the critics and did poorly at the box office, he apparently decided, "Okay, time to retire."
