AarG
The poster/lobby card TCM uses - for "Shipmates" shows Dick Powell, Ross Alexander and John Arledge in the corner a boxing ring - but there's no boxing sequence in the TCM presentation. Digging around online, I see the current art: https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/dick-powell-original-8x10-photo-boxer-3848218070 plus a wide shot of ring, also attributed to "Shipmates Forever", with Dick Foran as Midshipman 1/c Gifford (4/c Melville's "sponsor") in the middle of the ring with Powell, with dozens of others looking on: https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/dick-powell-boxing-boxers-photo-1935-shipmates Maybe this is just the "Mandela Effect" hitting me in a funny way, but I seem to remember a sequence where Sparks gets hazed for his clandestine/contraband radio, and takes a punch in the gut from Gifford, resulting in this image: https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0026988/mediaviewer/rm2822723840/ ... which set up the (missing) boxing match. The natural spot for it seems about half-way through, after Gifford has Melville perform for the ladies in the Smoke Room, but before Melville leaves his shared room for the single "down the hall." There's a similar setup in 1937's "Navy Blue & Gold" from MGM where a hazing senior is taken on by Robert Young's plebe character after a roommate is abused. Anyone else remember seeing the fight in this picture?
