So, just how badly do we think The Oscars are gonna "mess" things up this year?

i was on my phone LAST NIGHT, so i really couldn't go ALL IN on SPENCER (2021) I ALSO AM REAL DAMN SICK OF the princess di torture porn, although I WOULD WELCOME A MOVIE ABOUT THE TIME SHE PUSHED HER STEPMOTHER  DOWN THE STAIRS (AND NO, I AM NOT KIDDING, SHE DID THAT. IN LIKE 1990, WHEN SHE WAS FULL HRH PRINCESS OF WALES AND ALL THAT, LOOK IT UP!!!)

Maybe she'd just finished watching The Strange Love of Martha Ivers.

Was that the year PRINCE won for PURPLE RAIN?
(And brought Wendy and Lisa to the stage with him to accept, or am I remembering wrong?)

I remember this as being unintentionally hilarious. Prince thanked God, among others, IIRC.

Many thanks to Cinema International for the photos. I would absolutely wear the two outfits for Stan in the costume sketches from Nightmare Alley. Really nice hats. Some great work for several of the films, though the colors for West Side Story seem off, perhaps intentionally.

AND I WOULD ABSOLUTELY WEAR THIS KIKI LITTLE BLACK ENSEMBLE THAT CATE BLANCHETT IS WEARING.

ALTHOUGH I think I should note that photo of Miss Blanchett  has been PHOTOSHOPPED FOR THE GODS.

It's not a photo.  It's a computerized rendering done by the costume department prior to the film being made.

Ooooh thank you. I was trying to grasp why it was so uncanny.

SHE DID IT AT A PUBLIC GATHERING!!!! in the daytime! (Ie in front of witnesses) (Martha Ivers would never!)

Well, the question is,  was there undue cruelty to a cat involved?   That can be a strong motivation for pushing someone down the stairs.

Apparently it happened- and I’m being serious here – because Diana was at a function ca. 1990 at the Spencer Estate with her birth mother and she felt as though her stepmother RAINN was not showing her birth mother FRANCES deference and proper respect in the house where she had once been MISTRESS

So DI did what any of us would’ve done which is to push her stepmother down the stairs at a luncheon in the middle of the day.

Very ALEXIS COLBY of her really.

You mean ALEXIS CARRINGTON DEXTER ROWAN COLBY née MORELL.   Not sure if I got them in the right order.  Not sure Alexis could either.

I will also say that I am reluctant to see THE TRAGEDY OF MACBETH, but those pictures show some EXCEPTIONAL PRODUCTION DESIGN.

Absolutely agree about the exceptional production design in "The Tragedy of Macbeth".  A surreal world was created.  I also love Denzel Washington's performance as Macbeth as well as Frances McDormand as Lady Macbeth.  This was a new take on this brutal couple.

The queen and her late sister were huge fans of Dynasty.

seriously?

that makes the very end of this DYNASTY DUB EVEN FUNNIER, which I did not think was possible:

PS- Fans of the 1985 movie CLUE, you may recognize Alexis's Chambre de'Sexe as a redressed set of THE LOUNGE in that film (note THE DOORS, which have a distinct shape, even when painted)

did this all start when they opened up thenumber  nominees and got all egalitarian on us?

many would say so, but I say the demise of THE OSCARS is due to A THOUSAND CUTS over the years. I personally have been fed up and haven't watched a show since 2003...HOWEVER, I ALWAYS WATCH AND READ THE POST MORTEM OF THE SHOWS OVER THE YEARS and there have been an escalating number of problematic events- from some tacky public sniping  to TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE RUSHING THE STAGE and almost fighting over an award to THE LA LA LAND DEBACLE to LAST YEAR'S GALLING ***-UP WITH PLACING BEST ACTOR LAST, which was apparently the crap-coated cherry on a dismal show.

and then you add in the fact that THEY'RE WRONG AT LEAST 90% OF THE TIME.

A lot of us just got tired and disenchanted with the awards and the show itself over time, but I know I am still every bit as fascinated by the ongoing series of fiascoes that seem to be plaguing the show of late.

lol. most of the stuff you mention, i don't know because i haven't watched the awards nor cared FOR YEARS.  i never thought about actually WHY i stopped watcthing.  i stopped watching golden globes too.  hollywood is just different. the actors are different. the acting is different. the scripting is different. the price of the ticket in nyc,NY is ,,,,,,,different

i never cared about whether they got it right or wrong. i mean look,,,,,we are here posting on a forum of a board of a channel dedicated to watching hand picked films from the past. what does THAT say.

The Queen was a faithful watcher, but the late Princess Margaret took it to extremes. She saw every single episode (220 of them) 5 times apiece!
