filmnoirguy
I agree with everything Jim Carrey said to Gayle King today on CBS This Morning. If you didn't tune in, it's all over the internet and I'm sure on YouTube.
Roy Cronin
I thought the Jim Carrey comments were terrific, and I agree with him. "Hollywood is spineless en masse" is great. (About the standing ovation.) But it's easy to say that when you weren't in the room. It's a difficult situation all around.
Roy Cronin
And, incidentally, did anyone from the Academy Police go up and ask Chris if he was OK and could continue? I didn't see that.

Academy Police are recruited from actors from the POLICE ACADEMY movies, So it was just Leslie “ACTIONS speak LOUDER than WORDS!” Easterbrook and that guy who makes all the damn sound effects on duty Sunday night. They were less use than Mall Cops 1
LornaHansonForbes
… also, judging by some of the ensembles, the FASHION POLICE were sidelined as well. (Seriously, if Will Smith hadn’t done what he did, I would be equally indignant about that outfit Kristen Stewart wore)
unwatchable
What's this? Jim Carrey making sense? Surely, this must mean the end of the world is nigh. 1
LornaHansonForbes
I mean seriously, when you’re the fifth wheel unexpected best actress nominee that came from a film that did not connect with critics or audiences, but you got that nomination anyway, you show up to the show DONE, HONEY. See: BETTE MIDLER 1992- Gray and pink satin perfection, and all liquid diet for a month leading up to the show.

Jim Carrey would also crawl naked on his hands and knees over broken glass for the chance to win a best actor Oscar, so take anything he says with a grainy grain of salt. Roy Cronin
I hope Chris Rock and his attorneys run with this. It's basically workplace violence. That new, very expensive AMPAS museum would make a sweet condo type situation.

I think he's bitter about his time in Hollywood, even though most actors would give up a kidney to have what he's had. As a matter of course, I do not listen to what Jim Carrey says, because of his ignorant opinions about American politics. However, if he did call the Hollywood elite "spineless" over their ridiculous standing ovation for Smith's ridiculous acceptance speech after assaulting someone in their presence, then, yes, Carrey and I finally agree on something.
CinemaInternational
Have to say, Licorice Pizza is quite delightful. Saw it today, reminded me a lot of Almost Famous. Yes, the age gap between the romantic leads is a bit off, but this is an absolutely charming film that really nails the early 70s film. It is almost eerie though. The young lead is the late Phillip Seymour Hoffman 's son, and hes a dead ringer for his dad in looks and mannerisms. 2

And with your reference to the city of Dallas here Tex, and in regard to this point you made, I'm reminded of the following quote that's been attributed to the now deceased head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, Tom Landry: "The next time you get into the endzone, act like you've been there before." And which was and is a thought that seems to have lost all meaning in today's America. Nope, it seems the idea of "Class" or acting in a "classy manner" has gone the way of the Dodo bird for at least a generation or two. (...WHOOPS, and there I go AGAIN soundin' like some old fogey here, huh!)

Dargo
2 hours ago, Shank Asu said: So you think violence was the proper and excusable response here and the academy would be hypocritical to punish Smith? Not sure i see the logic in either. The hypocrisy is Smith resorted to violence and lost his cool and 30 minutes later he got a standing ovation and was trying to preach about love and being a light in the world. Well, like I said EARLIER in this thing about "standing ovations" here, Shank Asu..... LornaHansonForbes
one thing i will admit. if- in a shameless bid to integrate advertisers into the show itself- they brought on LIBERTY MUTUAL's DOUG AND LIMU EMU to present an award, and WILL SMITH got up out of his seat and SLAPPED DOUG (but not the EMU) like he slapped ROCK (maybe even harder), he'd be a God damn AMERICAN HERO (in my book at least) FOR LIFE. 2
LornaHansonForbes
Frankly, if the Emu caught a little taste of backhand, I'd consider it acceptable risk. I HATE those commercials with the heat of TEN THOUSAND SUNS.

CinemaInternational
25 minutes ago, LornaHansonForbes said: is it about LITERALLY putting licorice on pizza? and, if so, how does that go? No, it was named after a group of LA record stores long gone. Basically, the film is a series of vignettes of two young not-quite lovers (at least not during the runtime of the film) as they navigate a web of growing up in LA while also dealing with careers and family, and yes a few barracudas along the way. He's probably still furious that instead of his getting a much predicted Oscar nod for The Truman Show, the Academy decided to go way left-field and nod Edward Norton for playing an ex-Nazi skïnhēad in the divisive and controversial American History X (not least because of the off screen controversy that pitted Norton and New Line Cinema vs the Director), a move virtually nobody saw coming.
