The Hidden Movie

Recommended Posts

Late Sunday evening, TCM showed the 1902 short film A Voyage to the Moon, as produced by Frenchman George Méliès.  Even though it was not listed on the schedule, this short was followed by the documentary, The Méliès Mystery (2021), which gives background on his work and the recent effort to restore many of his lost films.

For anyone who missed the documentary and has the WatchTCM service, you can view the documentary by selecting the WatchTCM version of A Trip to the Moon - the documentary is included and is shown after the short.  Although the runtime of A Trip to the Moon is listed as 14 minutes on WatchTCM, together with the documentary and Jacqueline Stewart’s introduction the total runtime is over 75 minutes.

By the way, the inclusion of the Méliès documentary late last evening is also the reason the films shown on TCM this morning have been running 15 minutes behind schedule - the original schedule Sunday evening did not allocate enough time to show both A Trip to the Moon and the documentary together.  The schedule will sync back up when Wait Until Dark (1967) starts at 4 pm ET this afternoon.
