Several years ago I saw a film on TCM. If I'm remembering correctly it was a silent documentary about a native family in Indonesia or Borneo (?) they lived in a stilt house and were stalked by a tiger, which they killed. I was curious if this was live action or was staged somehow. Anyway, it has driven me crazy ever since, can't find any info by searching - any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like Merian C. Cooper's *Chang* which premiered on TCM in 2005 as part of a month long salute to him. I don't think the action was staged. Cooper also did the wonderful *Grass* silent documentary.

hiyah gang

i hope TCM shows *Chang* again soon. after seeing the bio on merion c. cooper "i am king kong",

recently i remember seeing some of the tiger scenes. when it was shown recently, *Grass* literally rocked my world. that man was built like a fireplug from somewhere in the deep south, a genius, but most of all - a man of integrity.

since *the third man* is on at the moment, my question is this:

has joseph cotton ever won the best actor oscar? if so, for what? if not, then he was another _great_ that somehow was passed over.

Re: Joseph Cotton.

No, he never won an Oscar! What a glaring error--he was a wonderful actor!

Remember him looking so absolutely evil in that glance at the dinner-table in "Shadow Of A Doubt"? You realized the character was truly a "bad guy" in just that look...

I think I saw this film in a theater when I was a kid back in 1952. I lived in a little town in Alabama that had only one theater, but it had the latest movies, and it had a big Saturday matinee for kids. Several times a year the theater would show some unusual and rare films, and foreign films. This was unusual for a small town in Alabama. But I remember the pet monkey, the houses elevated on sticks, and the elephant stampede at the end. And in fact, I saw ?King Kong? in this theater too, in 1952.
