Swithin
Funny Girl with Beanie Feldstein has opened on Broadway to mixed reviews. Evidently Beanie and Ramin have both been out a lot, for different reasons: a friend's wedding for her; Covid for him. https://playbill.com/article/reviews-what-did-critics-think-of-broadways-funny-girl-revival Funny Girl was my second Broadway show, I was a young teen and went along with my friends to the Winter Garden Theatre to see Barbra Streisand and company, in the summer of 1964. I loved it. I was never a huge fan of the movie, though I liked it well enough. A few years ago, at the Menier Chocolate Factory in London, I saw a revival with Sheridan Smith, who was pretty good, oddly best (for a goyish girl) in my opinion in the Yiddish dialect numbers. The Nicky in that production was Darius Campbell, whom I never heard of but who evidently was famous, so that had to restore a cut song for him to sing. Not a good song either. The production and performances were good, although Sheridan Smith evidently missed many performances. (They've put that song back in the current production as well, because the guy playing Nicky -- Ramin Karimloo -- whom I've never heard of -- is handsome and can sing).
