The fear-mongering and partisan headlines around Pelosi's visit to Taiwan are infuriating. Stop letting brutal dictatorships like China set the agenda with bluffs and violence. Unite democracies and let dictators be afraid instead.

Taiwan is a free and prosperous state of 23 million human beings that want to stay that way. The world is a better and safer place when authoritarian regimes are worried. They escalate and attack when they are confident.

The West appeased and made deals with Putin after he invaded Ukraine in 2014 & his all-out war was the response. China has obliterated Hong Kong's freedom, commits genocide against Uyghurs, and eyes Taiwan while watching the Ukraine response carefully.

Maybe Kasparov should go to Ukraine to fight Putin or maybe Taiwan or move back to Russia.

While I agree that the US has an obligation to do as much as possible to keep Taiwan free, short of going t war, Kasparov does not understand the complexities of what he is proposing.  Nor does he understand that if China wants Taiwan, they can take it and there is nothing the US can really do about it militarily.

Behaving like a spoiled child when one can't have it their way. Does the sanctions include  selling us less cheap junk?

I'm with you on this.  The West's opening up to Russia and China and supporting their economies in the hopes that they would move toward a democracy and market economy has not worked. The U.S. pumped hundred of billions into Russia after the collapse of the USSR and it got Putin in return.  Kasparov's main point is that foreign policy should be tied to moral reform.  Don't help dictators as they are like scorpions and cannot deviate from their true nature.

How would the US respond if the Chinese started increasing diplomacy to a hostile enemy right off of their coast? Taiwan has the murderous history of the white terror of the Kuomintang which still holds undue control over the island. If the US wants respect FROM China it has to be willing to give respect in return and that doesn’t include stoking problems in Taiwan.

For decades the U.S. has been deferential to Russia, buying into Russia’s exceptionalism and acting on hopes of cooperation and fears of conflict rather than on likely outcomes. Stop Tiptoeing Around Russia | ⁩ ⁦⁦

After a week in Taiwan, I come home deeply impressed by this thriving democracy & economy and even more convinced that the world must do everything to prevent war here. The first step— greater deterrence. Second step— greater diplomacy.

North Korea declares itself a nuclear weapons state

North Korea has passed a law declaring itself to be a nuclear weapons state, according to state news agency KCNA.

The country's leader Kim Jong-un called the decision "irreversible" and ruled out the possibility of any talks on denuclearisation, it said.

The law also enshrines the country's right to use a pre-emptive nuclear strike to protect itself.
