I wonder, has anyone else seen this 70s film? I didn't know much about it before I watched it. Only that it starred Art Carney and Lily Tomlin, and that's about it. But it turns out that it owes almost everything to the archetypal detective story from the 40s or 50s, the kind of gumshoe stuff associated with Dashiel Hammett and Raymond Chandler.

The 70s twist is that Carney's character, who could be a cousin to Philip Marlowe, ends up teaming up with Tomlin, whose character is a total New Age caricature.
