Just within the last hour or so,  the prize-winning author was stabbed in the neck while addressing a crowd at western New York's renowned Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, New York.   Details as to his condition have not been released;  fortunately, his assailant has been nabbed.

It seems so odd that the sedate environs of lovely Chautauqua have been violated in this horrible way.

Always cheered him on silently after the death threats started on him decades ago.    A brave, free speech exemplar.

Prayers up that he lives and will recover completely from whatever injuries have been sustained.

HAMRADIO,  I would doubt it's a matter of anything he 'did', recently or in the past.   I think it's more that, by exercizing free speech through his novels, he exists, speaks his mind, and some clearly don't like that.   The 'fatwa' (or death edict) against him, has been in place for decades.   Of course, it hasn't been said that the assailant was motivated by the long-time death threat, but it would seem to be at least a strong possibility.

So very sorry to learn that Rushdie is on a ventilator,  cannot speak, and will likely lose an eye as a result of the attack.

Heinous crime.   Rushdie may not be able to speak right now, but he has been such a friend to free speech around the world.
