so, who's your favorite Amity Islander?

Recommended Posts

as summer breaks, I found myself watching JAWS for the GodOnlyKnowsWhat time this morning and as I did so, this idea for a thread came back to me.

I had meant to start it before but sometimes EVEN I GET SICK OF HOW MUCH I TALK ABOUT JAWS.

Nonetheless, one of the many wonderful aspects of SENOR SPIELBERGO'S 1975 MASTERPIECE is the DICKENSIAN COLLECTION OF CHARACTERS whom we BRIEFLY MEET, often identifiable by an outfit or a single line of dialogue which tells us EVERYTHING WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THEM- all in the first half of the film, before we set out to sea with the three protagonists- NONE of whom are eligible to be your FAvORITE AMITY ISLANDER, btw, because

1. everyone's favorite would be QUINT

2. No one's favorite would be HOOPER

correction: **I HAVE BEEN CORRECTED, A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HOOPER FANS . my total bad.

and

3. THE CHIEF wasn't BORN HERE, HE'S NOT AN ISLANDER (YOU TOO, ELLEN!)

I will also allow submissions for characters from JAWS 2.

i did not want to prejudice the voting, but i will go right on out the gate and say my favorite is hands down:

"I DON'T THINK THAT'S FUNNY AT AWL"

THIS ABSOLUTE GODDESS OF A WOMAN:

Day 1A

SHE LOOKS LIKE Q-TIP AND SHE SOUNDS LIKE ERNEST BORGNINE AND I ADORE HER.

There's no way she's still alive tho, right?

I'm not sure if THE KINTNERS are ISLANDERS OR NOT, but since MRS KINTNER shows up in JAWS THE REVENGE, I'll allow it.

Not much is known about MR KINTNER outside of the fact that he fathered a child in his early 90s, well before Viagra was a thing, so, I will allow him to be considered as well because he is obviously a legendary icon.

Lee Fierro, Mrs. Kintner is Steven Spielberg's Jaws, dies at 91 from coronavirus | SYFY WIRE

What?! Actually here Lorna, I would say Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) has probably been my favorite character in it and since I watched this flick back when it was first released to the theaters. He's really the only character that brings the comic relief factor into the film, and I think Dreyfuss does a good job handling that aspect of this film, and which I might add I think makes the movie better for it.

You know, kind'a like how Hitchcock's films are the better for this.

(...I gotta wonder why you'd say this?)

Yeah, I kind'a figured you'd say this.

(...btw, please re-read my post up there, as I've added some addition comments to it and have now explained why I feel this way)

Does Jaws himself count as an Amity Islander? The shark is my favorite character.

I also love Quint because he's so crazy.  And the clueless mayor with all his bad suits.

Next week on the 6th, I might go see Jaws in 3D at the theater!! The first Jaws in 3D that is, not Jaws 3D made in 1983.

In all honesty my favorite islander is Chief Brody.

But that's because I've been a Roy Scheider  fan  since THE FRENCH CONNECTION('71).

And I'm with ya Darg, about Dreyfus in the movie too.  But realize, technically he wasn't an "islander".

Hmmm...I sure hope you're not now advocating underage drinking here, Lorna?!

The Youth of America deserve better than this, ya know.

(...and to say nothing about that cigarette in that young man's mouth here!)

;)
