HollywoodGolightly
One of the most under-appreciated of American movie directors, Alan Dwan is finally getting some long overdue recognition.... in France: Sony Pictures is releasing, through its French subsidiary, the Allan Dwan Boxset, which includes: *Silver Lode* (1954), *Passion* (1954), *Cattle Queen of Montana* (1954) , *Escape to Burma* (1955), *Pearl of the South Pacific* (1955), *Tennessee's Partner* (1955), *Slightly Scarlet* (1956) http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASIN/B002Q79TL6/ No word yet on whether Sony intends to release this in the U.S., or even if it owns the rights to all of these films in the U.S.
markfp2
I'd be very surprised if this set were released in the U.S. As we both know there are many American films released on DVD in Europe and other parts of the world that never see the light of day in this country. While a lot of us on these boards know Allan Dwan and those titles, I'll bet that Sony will think it's a little too obscure for the American market (meaning they can't make enough money on it) and will pass. If the films were owned by Warner, I'd say there might be a chance, but Sony I doubt it. I could be wrong, and I hope I am, but I've seen it happen many times before. HollywoodGolightly
I'm afraid you might be right about that, mark, and in fact I'm already thinking about ordering the set from amazon.fr - though I wouldn't mind waiting a bit just to see if it goes on sale. Even at the current price, though, I think it's a good value. (I just hope it doesn't have permanent French subtitles).

DownGoesFrazier
I never read this thread. I just used Dwan to try to "stump the stars" in the "Do You Know Me" thread in the "Games and Trivia" forum. If I had known that he was getting so much publicity on these boards, I wouldn't have used him. Edited by: finance on Dec 6, 2009 3:26 PM
