HollywoodGolightly
Thanks, TCM, for bringing us an evening's worth of movies based on Somerset Maugham novels tonight. HollywoodGolightly
Well, I DVR'd Quartet and Miss Sadie Thompson for later. Sometimes, a little Somerset Maugham goes a long way.
DougieB
You're right. It's a lot of angst for one night. I was happy to finally see "The Painted Veil", however, having enjoyed the recent remake. I'm not a huge Garbo fan, but I thought she underplayed nicely in this. Also a reminder of what good, solid players Herbert Marshall and George Brent were.
HollywoodGolightly
I haven't seen the original in quite a while, although I did watch the remake when it came out on video and wasn't too impressed. But, I would really like to go back and watch the Garbo version again.
DownGoesFrazier
In the cast of THE LETTER, don't forget the inimitable Gale Sondergaard.
