Terrence1
Well, Flashback, I was thinking of the original ("No Man of Her Own"), but since you gave the remake, it's yours.
flashback42
(5,949) Well, live & learn, huh? I recognized the plot device, but I was unaware that it was a remake. Also, I could not remember the title of 'Winterbourne', but I traced it down in the resume` of a supporting player, Miguel Sandoval, whose work has held my interest. Anyway, next up: Befuddled elderly lady, escorted by a household servant, spots a hat she likes in a shop window. She enters the shop, takes the hat and puts it on, and goes back out on the sidewalk. Shop personnel observe the theft and jot down a note. A member of the lady's family later comes in and pays for the item. Seems this is a common occurrence for this family. flashback42
The lady in this brief scene is a support character. Relatives of hers are at the center of the story; Her set piece in the shop helped to define the setting of the story. -- Small town Southern US, early 20th Century. Early 1960s release, Color, Brand Name scripter behind the story.

flashback42
Sort of lapsed on this one, myself. At 158 Views. The characters are somewhat isolated; socially inept, and unable to hook up with each other personally. The female lead character lives a life of suppressing her feelings and putting up a façade. The man who draws her interest is himself drawn towards self-indulgence and hedonism. As the story progresses, he falls for another woman who deals with him confidently. He deliberately changes his behavior in order to win her. The woman, on the other hand, is last seen in a public park, letting herself get picked up by that walking punch-line, a traveling salesman. This is one of the lesser-known works of respected playwright, and the work was first written for the stage. Elsewhere, he is known as the creator of Brick, Sebastian, Maggie, Gooper, etc.

flashback42
Assuming this thread is open; I see no clear statement otherwise... A musician is supporting himself playing piano at an open-air café. But he has bigger ambitions. Alone in his bedroom, he lapses into a daydream. He sees himself in performance, first as the conductor with his commanding baton. In sequence, he becomes the whole orchestra, first on the piano. Then he hits the gong. In multiple images he is seen playing the violins, the kettle drums and other instruments. At the end of the piece, he is seen in a special box in the balcony, applauding himself. Popular film, 1650s, Color. Performer? Film?
