Another man rubs an especially smelly concoction on himself, hoping his wife will buy a very strong after shave lotion for him.

This man fakes a back injury so he can spend the night at a place with a steam room..thus getting his wife used to the idea that any night out is purely for 'therapeutic reasons'

the three clues so far:

A man picks a fight with his wife over a chicken dinner as an excuse to leave the house ..so he can meet another woman.

Another man rubs an especially smelly concoction on himself, hoping his wife will buy a very strong after shave lotion for him.

This man fakes a back injury so he can spend the night at a place with a steam room..thus getting his wife used to the idea that any night out is purely for 'therapeutic reasons'

The South American, in NYC to try to negotiate new sources of rubber, was played by an actor who did more than one film playing an inventor.  His name became synonymous as slang for one of the inventions.

The actress who played the girl was involved in a triangle scandal some 10 years later.
