Edythevanhopper
Is it Damn Yankees, Jean Stapleton being the sitcom star?
mudskipper
That is correct, Edythe....The scene was the the first meeting between Joe Boyd and Mr. Applegate (the Devil) , played by Ray Walston, who was trying to convince Joe to agree to a contract for his soul. Two women, one played by Jean Stapleton, walk by and notice Joe talking to himself....You can see by the way Jean Stapleton spoke and moved where Edythe Bunker came from.... Your thread. Edythevanhopper
That's the one. I read somewhere Cary Grant was going to play Tony Wendes...they felt it would be wrong for him to plan to murder his wife...you're up
lavenderblue19
That story sounds a lot like what happened with *Suspicion* . Both endings were filmed having Cary a murderer and Cary not. They went obviously with the not. next one: A man forces his wife to a write an incriminating letter, he uses it to blackmail her into not leaving him
DownGoesFrazier
Sounds slightly like CAUSE FOR ALARM, but probably not.

lavenderblue19
Fritz Lang's *Human Desire* is the one. Glenn Ford, Gloria Grahame and Broderick Crawford as the drunken, wife beating, paranoid husband who kills the man and kills Gloria. I have to say Crawford in this one was one of the most unsympathetic characters I've seen on film. Thanks,6. Your thread.
