MilesArcher
It just came to me. It's "Nevada Smith" with Steve McQueen. Suzanne Pleshette is the woman who helps him escape the chain gang, but dies in the swamp. The character of Nevada Smith was also played by Alan Ladd in "The Carpetbaggers". lavenderblue19
YES, I thought this would go down on the first clue. Thank You Miles Steve McQueen as NEVADA SMITH and his character shows up in THE CARPETBAGGERS as Alan Ladd as the older Nevada. NEVADA SMITH was his story as a young man, even though the film THE CARPETBAGGERS came first. BRIAN kEITH PLAYED Jonas Cord, the man who teaches Nevada to shoot a gun and the man who calls out to Nevada. Karl Malden is his enemy, he tortures and kills Nevada's parents, so it's Nevada's story of finding Malden and his gang and getting his revenge. Malden pleads with Nevada to kill him in the end, but Nevada doesn't, and yes Suzanne Pleschette plays the girl who helps Nevada escape but is bitten by a snake and dies. The Jonas Cord character becomes wealthy and successful and has a son Jonas Cord Jr. played by George Peppard in THE CARPETBAGGERS. he treats the older Nevada (Alan Ladd) badly. THE CARPETBAGGERS I think was Alan Ladd's last film. NEVADA SMITH is a pretty good film and THE CARPETBAGGERS is a guilty pleasure film. WHEWW! MilesArcher
Yes, and the Frankenstein monster was played by western actor Glenn Strange. However, in the scene that I described, Strange couldn't throw the woman ( a stunt double for actress Lenore Aubert) because he had a bad back, so Lon Chaney Jr., who had played the monster in "The Ghost Of Frankenstein" years earlier, donned the make-up once again just for that scene. Brickdavis is up next.

Terrence1
That's right. I also love both versions, but perhaps the Wyman version a little bit more. The character seems to be developed more in the remake. Your turn.
