JackFavell
I'm wondering if the girls in NY lost power already? Or maybe they just went to bed. I just got a copy of STAND IN yesterday, the funny thing is, I ordered it before all this talk of the movie started, and before TCM ran it... I didn't even know it was going to be on. I'm a big Leslie Howard fan, but I have never seen it before. I'll be watching in the next couple of days along with THE MATCHMAKER... as soon as I regain control..... JackFavell
oop...there you are! I thought so! Gable was close for me, but I can't help feeling so awful for Bogie, standing there in the rain.... a WOW ending, with the water washing the ink away.... he needs comforting.... and judging from his role in The Big Sleep, the rain brings out the best in him:
CineMaven
BED! SCHMED!!! I'm still here. Now... I can't! I can't! I can'! With all my heart...I still love the Ty that shaves!!!! :x
JackFavell
I missed almost all of Linda Darnell day today, we had doctor's appointments in New Haven then stopped for a late lunch on the way back. I would have loved to see Linda and Joseph Cotten together, and Jeff Chandler is a bit under rated I think. I watched *Fallen Angel* for the first time, and was really caught up by it. it was filmed beautifully, with so many noir touches. I just wish it had a better ending.... the build up was great, suspenseful, making you think almost anyone was capable of the murder. I was actually expecting a bit more of a twist, but Dana, Linda Bickford, Revere and Faye were all great. Wouldn't it have been a TRIP if the murderer was Alice Faye? CineMaven
I'm wondering if the girls in NY lost power already? Or maybe they just went to bed. No I'm still here...posting Tyrone Power in the wrong thread. I gotta get back over to the FAVORITES Forum. I must confess a selfish admission. I'm glad when your family takes control of the tv 'cuz then you get to spend time here chatting with us. I'll be curious of your take of "STAND-IN." I thoroughly enjoyed it. I watched Fallen Angel for the first time, and was really caught up by it. it was filmed beautifully, with so many noir touches. I just wish it had a better ending.... the build up was great, suspenseful, making you think almost anyone was capable of the murder. I was actually expecting a bit more of a twist, but Dana, Linda, Bickford, Revere and Faye were all great. Wouldn't it have been a TRIP if the murderer was Alice Faye? I really enjoyed that movie. I strangely found Linda and Alice two sides of the same coin in terms of their look. Alice was kind of a dreamy eyed sap, but she looked great. Dana. What can I say. The more of a cad he is, the more I love him. Hmmmm...is that the ice cream talking? I love Anne Revere. And Darnell...sassy and saucy as ever. If Alice Faye HAD been the murderer...that would have really made this the classic. Not a lot of women murdered in the movies unless they were the femme fatale in a film noir flick. Ty's good anyway you can get him! But I agree with the rest of your 'no moustache' list.... Yeah. Let me get back over there.
JackFavell
I agree they are two sides of a coin, and Dana finally discovered who was really worth his efforts. I actually read your words about Dana as if you had said he WAS ice cream, and I was thinking how true he's yummy. Dana MADE that movie. I can't think of anyone who could have played that part as well as he did. He had it all down, the obsession, the fear, the paranoid behavior, and then the back story of his life, where you feel tremendous sympathy for him.... Ah Dana. I'm in a mothering mood. Bronxgirl48
Mayor Bloomberg just said there are tornado warnings posted for New York, so it's interesting that ypu mentioned THE WIZARD OF OZ. Let me know if you see Margaret Hamilton on her broomstick. David Raksin's score for FALLEN ANGEL -- tense, sweet/sour poignant, yearning, mysterious, tentatively romantic, really "makes" the movie for me. JackFavell
Oh, I agree about the music, it was very intense. I think this is my favorite Preminger, after Bonjour T. That reminds me Maven, did they evacuate you there? I kept hearing about it, and was worried about you sticking it out at home.
Bronxgirl48
Thanks, Maven, for the technical advice. Whether I can implement it is another story. It's quiet here in Boca. Just the occasional shrieks from primordial creatures. The animals also make a lot of noise. We're grateful here in South Florida to be spared Irene, but we can't feel smug, because our hurricane season has another three months to go, and anything can happen in that time frame. Bronxgirl48
BONJOUR TRISTESSE is now my favorite Preminger, followed by FOREVER AMBER, FALLEN ANGEL, ANATOMY OFA MURDER, then LAURA.
MissGoddess
Linda's "Stella" makes *Fallen Angel* for me. I lose interest in the later part of the movie when she's not around. But everyeone is terrific, especially Bickford. He's such a fantastic actor. For so long I only knew him as the hard old rancher in *The Big Country*. Moirafinnie read some bio or interview with him where he really went to town with stories of his wild life. It made my mind reel. I heard about the twister warnings. We've actually had a couple of tornados this year, haven't we? I think there was one in the boroughs earlier this spring. What a wild and woolly year its been for weather. I'd add Dana Andrews to the list of actors who look better without the mooostash.
JackFavell
Oh I am a ditz tonight! I forgot *Laura*! Alright, make *Fallen Angel* third. I haven't seen *Forever Amber* in an age... I wish they had shown it today.
