OllieTSB
Jeepers, I didn't even know MissG was down. Honest, I haven't touched the blond ringlet'd voodoo doll in months! Heck, CM sent me a great photo of her and while, yes, I did create a set of enlargements, none of those have made it to the dartboard. Yet. So many to pick on, so little time-! But "get well quick" is always a hope, too. ("All the better to pick on you again, my dear...") I love Margaret Hamilton. snicker, snicker... Bronxgirl48
I saw William Castle's SHANKS last night. Was trying to explain to my mother yesterday what it was all about -- Marcel Marceau, puppets, zombies, crazed bikers, and Helena Kallianiotes as "Mata Hari". Quite a mix, lol. Actually it has a lot of the grotesque whimsy that Tim Burton would be known for, and I wonder if this film was one of his inspirations. Marcel plays a deaf-mute who is abused by his in-laws, and at their bullying insistance (because they want his money) he goes to work for a scientist who is experimenting with re-animation of the dead. And then it gets really bizarre. Edited by: Bronxgirl48 on Aug 1, 2010 5:25 AM
OllieTSB
I saw SHANKS when it came out - I'd misspent my youngest years with William Castle films, after all - and was greatly disappointed. I don't remember anything about it except it had "William Castle" and "Marcel Marceau" in the credits. "Welcome to the world where Credits and Book Covers don't mean diddly..." But I honestly only remember "not liking it" and it's one of those most-sought-after films on my list just to see if it's as bad as I don't exactly remember it. MissGoddess
hi Lady B! Never even heard of SHANKS....but you say Marcel Marceau was in it?! Did he make many other films? The way you described it, it DOES sound Tim Burtonish. So where exactly did the money come in from re-animating corpses? Did loved ones pay to get their dearly departed back or was the "mad scientist" in charge offering a hefty salary? I can only imagine what your Mom would think of such a film.
