What film showed man with dyed hair (hiding his identity) taking a bath?

Recommended Posts

I saw a movie about 45 to 50 years ago in which a man had dyed his hair in order to hide his identity. I believe he was more or less forced to take a bath for some reason. While in the tub his hair touched the surface of the water and the dye mixed with the water in the tub which provided evidence that he was concealing his identity.

I believe the film was a comedy and the bath scene took place in a mansion. I believe the woman who graciously, but forcefully, persuaded the man to take the bath was in the room with him which is why the hair dye in the water was a giveaway to his false identity. The other person(s) in the room could have been one or more males, but, I have a faint recollection that it was just one woman.

I saw the film on TV at the time, and most likely a black & white set, so, I don't know if the film was originally produced in color or black & white. At the time that I saw the film it was already an old movie so it was probably made in the late 1930's up to about 1950.

Does anyone recall a scene like this in a film, and, what film is it?
