joefilmone
Obviously the Edgar Rice Burrough state doesn't care about their classic properties. Cheap studio The Assylum has just produced a direct to DVD version of this sci-fi adventure with Antonio Sabato Jr and Tracie Lords. HarryLong
>>Obviously the Edgar Rice Burrough state doesn't care about their classic properties Maybe the copyrights have expired & they haven't any control over them. Then again, those Amicus adaptations back in the 1970s were pretty ghastly. Maybe they've never cared.
joefilmone
The problem with those Amicus films is that they were often boring- Burroughs is anything but boring.
HarryLong
Boring _and_ with bad FX. The only one I can tolerate is the one with Peter Cushing (AT THE EARTH'S CORE?) because he's doing such an outrageously comic turn.
joefilmone
I saw some of this on the Sci-Fi channel last night and it's worse than I imagined- really tacky production- with cheap CGI effects and bad make up. Antonio Sabato Jr was ok as Carter well at least he has the body to play an ERB hero.
HarryLong
>>really tacky production- with cheap CGI effects and bad make up It's an Asylum* DVD... what did you expect? *Or as the OP spells it, Assylum - which just might be more appropriate...
William735
The good news is Disney's making an official version titled JOHN CARTER OF MARS. The bad news was that the novel itself, "A Princess of Mars" is in the public domain so Asylum was able to make their version.
