Greatest movie characters of all time

Recommended Posts

BabyT:

Hi -

"Wouldbestar" is not the only one moved by "Mr. Chips." I thought she was taking a nap when I was watching this one day. Later she came down crying and I thought something was wrong. When I got her to talk all she could say was "Why haven't I seen that before?" After I asked her what she was talking about she said she had really watched the movie. As she was moved by it we had to get a copy so she could share with friends.

I thought for sure I mentioned I was talking about my bride in the earlier post. (For some reason I can't edit it. No wonder you wrote.) One more dumb thing for me.

Movieman: Congratulations on your marriage. What a treat to have somebody you can share all these great movie memories with. May you have a long and wonderful life together.

Butterscotch: I thought Greer Garson was her usual fine self. I was stunned when Kathy died so soon after the marriage but what she taught him stayed long afterwards. My only regret was that like so many of her other films it was black and white; if ever anybody was made for color films, it was her.

Butterscotch, I don't remember if you told me you've seen ONE TOUCH OF VENUS. If you haven't, the entire movie is on YouTube. Ava is enchanting (literally) as the goddess of love. Cute and cozy comedy-fantasy with music. ("Speak Low" and others) But Eve Arden steals it as Molly, Tom Conway's long-suffering and frustrated secretary.

Where's the horror characters, Horror Chick?

I've got what I like to call "supernatural" characters, not so much "horror". Are Louise Allbrttton in SON OF DRACULA, Simone Simon in CAT PEOPLE, Gloria Holden in DRACULA'S DAUGHTER, Jean Brooks in THE SEVENTH VICTIM, Patricia Jessel in HORROR HOTEL, Lenore Aubert in ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN, Conrad Veidt in THE MAN WHO LAUGHS, and Charles Laughton in THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME chopped liver?

It's one of my childhood favorites. I just love Ava in this. I know a lot of people prefer her as a noir/blowsy dame, but give me Gardner as the daughter of Jupiter any time.

I did regret not including Karloff as the Frankenstein Monster, and probably as the Mummy too. These are sympathetic creatures. However much I like Lugosi, none of his characters were what you could remotely call warm and fuzzy. (not that Ardeth Bey was, but at least he had an eternally romantic spirit. And I do mean eternal)

Keep it up, Bright Boy.

I can think of a few people who might deserve it more.

I frankly can't either, not even Rita.
