CelluloidKid
*Oscar Winner ?The Cove? Finally To Play In Japan!!* Tuesday, March 9, 2010 . Winning the Oscar for best feature-length documentary may finally result in The Cove being shown in Japan, where it has effectively been banned, except for a single screening during the Tokyo Film Festival last October, the Wall Street Journal reported today (Tuesday). The film deals with the annual slaughter of dolphins near the town of Taiji. Some Japanese have complained that the movie foists Western values on its audience and that capturing and eating dolphin meat is akin to Western cattle raising and butchering. The Japanese distributor of the film said that it will undergo certain alterations when it is released, including blurring out the faces of some of the residents of Taiji who are seen in it.
