HollywoodGolightly
As many of you already know, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is TCM's Guest Programmer today, and I thought it was really awesome that he'd pick two of the most famous noirs ever for the first two time slots tonight: *The Big Sleep* (1946) 8pm ET Private eye Philip Marlowe investigates a society girl's involvement in the murder of a pornographer. Cast: Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, John Ridgely, Martha Vickers Dir: Howard Hawks BW-114 mins, TV-PG *The Maltese Falcon* (1941) 10pm ET Hard-boiled detective Sam Spade gets caught up in the murderous search for a priceless statue. Cast: Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor, Gladys George, Peter Lorre Dir: John Huston BW-101 mins, TV-PG I think it'll be pretty interesting to hear what he has to say about the two movies and why he picked them. HollywoodGolightly
I enjoyed Kareem's intros more than I thought I would! Particularly the intro to The Maltese Falcon, where he mentioned the "prequel" novel, Spade & Archer. I don't remember having heard about it before, but I looked it up and found this: http://articles.latimes.com/2009/feb/09/entertainment/et-book9 Pretty interesting...
