Favorite Hollywood Couple

maybe this topic has already been done on another thread, but who is your favorite Hollywood couple? They can be your favorite movie duo, or just famous people who dated or were married.

Mine is Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier. Cliche? Probably, but they're my favorite. I've seen two out of the three movies they did together, and by far the best is That Hamilton Woman (1941), IMO. I was reminded of it when I saw Vanity Fair with Reese Witherspoon last night because there is a scene where they talk about Lord Nelson and his scandalous love afair with social climber Emma Hamilton.

One thing I've noticed about Laurence Olivier, is that in a lot of his early movies like Rebecca, Pride and Prejudice, etc, he act with such a stage air about him. Really dramatic, as if he's performing in a play. I read that a lot of people said Larry belonged on the stage and Viv belonged on film. I think that's true in some respects. Vivien was defiantly a natural on camera, and I wish she would have done more movies, especially after GWTW.

What do you all think?

You know I've always admired Hollywood couples that WEREN'T controversial. People like Gregory Peck, Lloyd Bridges, Robert Stack, Cyd Charisse and Tony Martin, Alice Faye and Phil Harris. Those that got married and stayed married and lived normal lives. I know Vivien and Lord Laurence were a fascinating couple but very troubled. That just doesn't sit right with me, but I'm sure at the time people just didn't know about all that stuff like they do today. Most couples don't have dueling press conferences or gossip columns to put each other down. Like when Jim Carrey and Lauren Holly were together. I think HE just about ruined her career. And I'm sure it will happen with other couples.

Humphrey Bogart and his baby Lauren Bacall-there's a couple I wish they would have had more time together but what they had they enjoyed. It is very touching to read about in her book Lauren's book she is so truthful in the ups and downs of her being married to him and he to her but the love jumps from the page. The courtship was so straining to read about I can only imagine what is was like in real life. They went down such a long road to be together and it just makes you so happy for them as you read of it you can see the clouds part and the clear skies ahead for them before the end. I also like June Allyson and Dick Powell another May-December romance. June writes so lovingly about him. It was true love on both their parts I can just hear him call her Monkeyface and Juniepie. Allyson tells how tickled he was she was to have a baby since she and he thought it would never happen. Then the mishaps her telling a partyhost the reason they weren't at their party was that they had a cow in the pool(they were raising cows) and her mistelling the name of Powell's movie The Enena down Below instead of The Enemy Down Below. Then how slightly miffed she was when Powell said Debbie Reynolds was making June look old to him if he wasn't careful. I cried buckets when she talked of his death. Betty Grable and Harry James seemed very happy I saw them many a time on TV with Ball and Arnaz on the shows after I Love Lucy. I always thought how wonderful that looks aren't everything to some people. I also like Anne Bancroft to Mel Brooks and remember finding out they were married the serious actress to the funny man and being surprised.

I don't really know for sure.

I am interested in the Taylor/Stanwyck relationship as well as the Sinatra/Gardner one.

Well, they aren't a couple but I think knowning the relationship status between Sullivan/Stewart would have been interesting to know about.

But my favorite couple..

Bogie and Bacall.

HA HA, Liz Taylor and "everybody"! How true! :)

Clark Gable and Carole Lombard are another of my favorites. He really just let himself go after she died, I feel quite sorry for Dear Mr Gable.

Oh yes, paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. Talk about standig the test of time, especially in Hollywood. I give them a pat on the back.

Good topic,

Ruby Keeler and Dick Powell are my favorites.

No one could do it like them. They had such a great presence together. They were like the all american couple.

Dick Powell starred with Ginger Rogers, Gloria Stuart, Joan Blondell and others. But Dick Powell and Ruby Keeler was the best. They were like the perfect couple to me. They seem so realistic. They were the young loves.

Dick Powell was a better match then Al Jolson for Ruby Keeler, that's my thought.

I loved Ann Sheridan with James Cagney and Humphrey Bogart.

I'm really just logging in on this post to say "HEY!" To jposkitt1983-(I reckon' it's cool to tell others, she's an actress!!! & I am not certain, but a dancer as well) So you cinephiles that have any advice, for her Here you are

My vote of course goes to: *Tracy & *Hepburn

Mr. 0sborne spoke of this, some may have missed it though. Other than the 6 "Thin Man- series"-(1934-47) William Powell & Myrna Loy appeared in 16 pictures together overall.
