Today's episode of EastEnders.

TB--

I'm binge-watching two of my favorite British cop- mystery shows--

Inspector Lewis and New Tricks

Both from the very beginning....

I like to watch the development of the characters' relationships and interactions.

When I get tired of these shows, I just go over to Midsomer Murders for a break. Some break--LOL

But it's a little more bucolic and slower-paced.

Nice. I'm certainly a fan of Inspector Lewis and Midsomer Murders.

Do you still have Britbox?

What are you watching on that?

Yes, I do. They just added Wallander, a great mystery/crime series starring Kenneth Branagh.

Plus there were some good year-end specials like the holiday message from Queen Elizabeth, a tour of Britain's best Christmas decorations, and a Christmas mass at King's college with their famous boys choir.

Right now, I'm watching "Sorrowful Jones."  I saw this movie a long time ago when I borrowed the VHS from the library.  This is a cute film.

I tuned in about half way through and was liking it. I almost hit Record to get the rest but decided to wait till it comes around again---if it does. Yes, cute.

watching a season 5 episode of McMillan & Wife---Mildred's sister shows up in this one...actually there's way too much of her in it (maybe Martha Raye is an acquired taste I never acquired...find her irritating).  Evidently, this was to 'introduce' her to the audience before she became Nancy Walker's replacement the next year

It is my understanding that as viewers,   comedians are by their nature an "acquired taste",  and  much more-so than non-comedians.     Various reasons have been floated around about WHY:    one would be that looks don't matter.      With a dramatic actor looks play a big part and if one is "hot" this can cover-up limitations in their ability,  especially early in their career when they are leaning their craft.

I never acquired a taste for Raye but I did for Betty Hutton,   as long as her role is limited or the director helps "contain" some of her screen persona.

If I Had a Million--haven't seen it in many years; packed with Paramount's stars, 7 directors and 16 writers credited...8 vignettes ranging from tragic to heart-warming about random people being gifted with a million...a plot line to be used numerous times after this 1932 film.  If it hadn't popped up on Classic Reel, I would never have thought of it..

I am working from home and treating myself to the Douglas Sirk melodramas that are on Watch TCM.  Right now, I'm watching All That Heaven Allows.

Jane Wyman's kids suck.  They drive her away from the man she loves, then have the nerve to act all nonchalant about the things they were whining about.  Then, the son has the gall to buy his mother a television set, stating that that's all the companionship she'll ever need.  Screw you son.

I'm watching All About Eve.  I think I've watched this movie 3 times in a month.  I love this movie, I never tire of watching Addison rip apart Eve.

I think I may watch Where the Boys Are next.  I literally just watched this 2 days ago, but I'm going to watch it again.  I've seen it at least a dozen times (probably more) and I never tire of it.  I also just found out that the movie was based on a novel of the same name and it's available on Kindle.  I am looking forward to reading it to see how it differs from the movie.

I've been watching episodes of In the Heat of the Night on Amazon Prime.

Carroll O'Connor and Howard Rollins were both excellent in this long-running series.

We have been going through the entire series and have enjoyed it (again) quite a bit. I think those two had a unique relationship off screen and it carries well on screen.

I'm watching Stage Door.  I've seen this movie multiple times and really enjoy it.  I find it interesting that the film's only acting nomination was for Andrea Leeds.  I think she's one of the weaker characters in this film.  If Kay's acting is anything like how she acts in the boarding house, no wonder she didn't get the part in Enchanted April.

If anything, I think Ginger Rogers and Katharine Hepburn deserved the acting nods for this film.

This is such a great ensemble film--such an amazing cast: Hepburn, Rogers, Lucille Ball, Eve Arden, Ann Miller, Gail Patrick...

Right now I'm watching Too Late For Tears.  The newly restored UCLA version is available for rental on the library's Kanopy streaming service.  If your library participates all you need to do is create an account with Kanopy using your library card number.  I am the member of two libraries and both of my libraries participate.  I get 10 rentals/month with one library and 15 with the other.
