What Are You Watching Now?

What I love about this episode is that it's a combination of the "supernatural" (if you believe that the machine foretold the future), and man's own weakness in discounting his own strength in making things happen. Shatner and Patricia Breslin work well together. And I love the finish. Whatta show. ;)

Boy, what I would not give to own that little devil machine!

It would look great in my rec room and could add some spice to parties with everyone getting their fortunes told.

Hmmm, first I'd ask it though "Would it be a good thing for me to purchase you for my rec room?" just in case the devil guy says "Not a good idea!".

Black Adder II - More great historical comedy with Rowan Atkinson as the scheming Edmund, Lord Blackadder, this time in the late 16th century court of Elizabeth I, played as a flighty goof by Miranda Richardson. Also with the great Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Miriam Margolyes, and Tom Baker.

After a very busy day at work (didn't even have time to take lunch!), running two departments in the warehouse, I am at home, relaxing, while eating pizza (the world's most perfect food) and having a Cuba Libre.  While enjoying my delicious dinner, I am watching The Adventures of Robin Hood.  I needed a fun film and how can you go wrong with this film and Errol Flynn in tights? I don't think you can.  I have to work all weekend, so I have to make my free time count.  No rest for the weary.

I'm going to be in pizza paradise tomorrow night. A few of my friends are coming over and, while devouring dinner, we'll see Barney Miller, The Bob Newhart Show, Rhoda and WKRP in Cincinnati. It'll be a 1970s extravaganza.

But for now, though, I'm watching Burns and Allen, and my dinner was tuna fish. ;)

Ooh.  A 70s extravaganza sounds fun! After 'Robin Hood,' I may watch an Eleanor Powell movie, I'm thinking Broadway Melody of 1940.  I started reading Jeanine Basinger's The Star Machine and she did a little blurb about how Powell was groomed into being a star.  It put me in the mood to watch one of her movies.  She was an amazing tap dancer.

Hope you enjoy that fantastic book!

I also have a documentary DVD on Billy Wilder that I rented from classicflix.com. I may switch to that later.

Black Adder II was my favorite season or series. Great, classic back and forth with Edmund, Elizabeth and Lord Melchett.  Then second would be the "...Goes Forth" series because of the insanity/absurdity of war theme and General Melchett.

Too bad Brian Blessed was only in the first series.

The Land That Time Forgot (1975) and The People That Time Forgot (1977) - Comet TV

I am not going to try and convince anyone that these are a pair of classic movies. But they are both based upon novels written by Edgar Rice Burroughs. And I grew up happily reading all of his Caspak novels. And Tarzan novels. And Barsoom novels. And Pellucidar novels. And Venus novels. Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. So, needless to say, I'm good for the next few hours.

Too bad they are not doing a triple feature with At the Earth's Core (1976).

The original "The Thomas Crown Affair" from 1968.

Very good movie.

BUT hearing Noel Harrison singing "The Windmills of Your Mind" reminds me even though very limited, he is a better actor than a singer.  IMO, a great song ruined by a poor singer.  He should have stuck with "The Girl from U.N.C.L.E."

I'm watching a few more episodes of Webster. Emmanuel Lewis is great in this series...his performances are warm and funny. And while I know it's not fair to make a comparison, I probably prefer his comedy over Gary Coleman (whom I also liked watching when I was a kid in the 80s).

After posting on the 1944 thread, I had a strong urge to watch Meet Me in St. Louis.  Even though I've seen this movie a hundred times and have a ton of movies on my DVR that I should be watching instead, I had to watch this film.  Once I get an urge to watch something, I have to watch it, otherwise I will never be satisfied.  I never tire of Meet Me in St. Louis.  Right now it's at "The Trolley Song."

Watching more of my Golden Girls... I have seen every episode at least three times. I think it's such a well-written show, and Bea, Betty, Rue, and Estelle were all such talented actresses; it makes it more fun to "watch them in action," so to speak.

I'm watching The Wizard of Oz on Blu-Ray! I've probably seen this movie a hundred times over the past 30 years or so.  It aired on TV annually for years (I think it was on around Thanksgiving) and stopped within the last decade or so--probably due to the popularity of streaming.  People don't need to wait for this movie to air on TV, they can see it whenever they want.

Anyway, I actually hadn't seen it for a couple years or so and suddenly got the urge to watch it.  I guess I'm in a Judy Garland kind of mood.  Right now, the tornado just hit Kansas and Dorothy has been knocked out by the window falling off and hitting her.

I love Almira Gulch/The Wicked Witch of the West's music.

I also always thought the Munchkins were creepy, I prefer the Flying Monkeys.

I think the scene where Dorothy steps out of the sepia toned house and into the vibrant Technicolor Oz is one of the most magical scenes in movie history.

Wow, what a coincidence! I was babysitting on the Air Force base in NM, and I introduced the 3 year old girl to Wizard of Oz. I had to describe Glinda as a princess lol. The Almira Gulch music was my ringtone on my phone for a while.

The Amira Gulch music would be a great ringtone.  Glinda was the Good Witch of the North and then there were the Wicked Witches of the East and West.  I wonder if there was a Good Witch of the South??  I want to read all the Wizard of Oz books, but I haven't gotten that far yet.

My favorite part of the movie is when they finally reach the Emerald City and they ring the bell.  The gate keeper opens the door: "Who rang that bell?" and then after they have to explain why they want to see The Wizard, he goes: "Well bust my buttons!" I have a magnet on my fridge that says that.  Lol.

This is the difference between watching this movie as a 5 year old and watching it as an almost 32 year old...

I swear I just started watching this movie and they've already made it to the Emerald City.  It seemed like it took them forever to get there when I was little.

I just got to my favorite part:

WHO RANG THAT BELL?

WELL BUST MY BUTTONS! THAT'S A HORSE OF A DIFFERENT COLOR!

I bet it did not take as long to get to the Emerald City as it did to figure out how to do the Tornado scene when I was a crow in 1998 on stage.....
