*Carl Rinsch May Direct The New Logan's Run For Warner Bros.*

By Katey Rich

Cinema Blend

You may remember the name Carl Rinsch from the period around this time last year when Ridley Scott was trying to convince Fox to let Rinsch direct the Alien prequel, rather than forcing Scott to direct the thing himself. The studio won in the end, though, and Rinsch lost the job to Scott, though by then Rinsch was so firmly established as a director to watch it was only a matter of time before he picked up another high-profile job. Now the job has come, and it's not just a big movie, it's also associated with another 70s sci-fi classic.

According to THR, Rinsch is in talks with Warner Bros. to direct Logan's Run, which technically isn't a remake of the 1976 film because it's based on the original 1967 novel, but come on. A new writer will have to come on board to supervise another rewrite, since the project has been in development for so long, under so many different directors, that God knows what kind of a mess it is by now.

The piece of work that got Rinsch all this attention-- aside from his associations with Ridley Scott, of course-- was the short film/commercial called "The Gift," a sci-fi tinged piece that you can watch embedded below. Clearly he has skills with sci-fi and visual flair; is the Scott family endorsement enough to make you trust this newbie with a new take on a classic?
