emgee1
I'm guessing the actresses were Ava Gardner and Barbara Stanwyck Gardner had an affair with Stanwyck's husband Robert Taylor while making The Bribe . Gardner and Stanwyck played in East Side, West Side together. How's that?
lavenderblue19
That's more like it. Ava and Robert Taylor had their affair according to Ava's book during the filming of *The Bribe* . In *East Side West Side* Barbara is married to James Mason's character who is having an affair with Ava Ava is the other woman. The impression is Barbara did not know at that time about the REAL life affair of Ava and Robert Taylor. Ava's attitude was there was nothing wrong with having an affair as long as no one knows, then no one will be hurt! I'm sure Barbara would not have agreed with Ava's philosophy. emgee1
Thank you; nice bit of Hollywood trivia. Still haven't seen The Bribe. Anyway: because the director was such a bully, the actress in this noir stuttered on the set, making him think she was drunk. Who's the actress and what film? lavenderblue19
There was a mob hit that was planned against this classic actor., but was stopped in time. Who and why??
MilesArcher
It was planned against James Cagney on the set of a movie, but George Raft, who was also in the picture, heard about it and used his underworld connections to have it called off. The mob was muscling in on the Hollywood trade unions and they were going to drop a kleeg light on Cagney to show how far they had infiltrated. lavenderblue19
Correct Miles. Cagney was President of The Screen Actors Guild at that time. He was determined to not let the mob infiltrate the industry. Scary stuff and sounds Ilike it could have been a film starring Cagney and Raft. Thanks Miles, good work, your thread. MilesArcher
Thanks. Before filmakers discovered Hollywood, most movies were made in and around New York. One New Jersey city was home to several film companies. For a short while, at least, it was said to be the moviemaking capital of the industry. Do you know what city that was?
