Lavender,

As always, very good.  This 1940 screwball comedy is reminiscent of others of the genre, but quite enjoyable.

Your turn.

Take Care of My Little Girl?

Yes, Take Good Care Of My Little Girl. Jeanne Crain, Dale Robertson, Mitzi Gaynor, Jean Peters, Jeffrey Hunter and even Natalie Schaffer is in this one as the House Mother of the Sorority. It would have been a too much of a giveaway to give clues about the Sorority since the film is all about that. Good work Star, Thanks and it's your thread ;)

The proprietor of the saloon takes her in until she can sail back to Ireland and, the next day, he attends church with her in an upscale area of the city.

Is it 1945’s NOB HILL, with Peggy Ann Garner, Vivian Blaine, Joan Bennett and George Raft?

Good guess Princess, but this is not the film.

Next clue:  the woman marries the man, and moves with hin to Paris.  This helps her to get away from her past.
