Okay. A guy helps some other guys carry out a murder when he thinks he is just helping them push someone around, and he gets some moral and spiritual help afterwards from a young lady and a Catholic priest.

Okay, then, next up:


Early 1950s Western. Gunman / gambler wins a ranch with a cut of the cards at a poker table. Turns out the spread is debt-ridden, and there's a herd of cattle standing around when they should be on the way to the railhead and the market. So. Cattle drive through bad terrain, apposing land-grabbers who want the drive to fail, indians, range fires, etc, etc.

Revelation halfway through the story: A state law says land deeds can not be put up in gambling games. The elderly rancher who lost his spread says that law was meant to protect fools and drunks -- and he is neither one. He takes no steps to void the title transfer.
