That husband/wife argument, he goes to a bar and meets another woman, that plot line is used in quite a few films. Haven't seen *Phantom Lady* in ages, wish TCM would show the film next A woman lets another woman use her identity so she can escape danger

Emgee66
Neither; yes it's a weird story, written by the master of weird stories. He returns to his job, but a man starts following him,and even attacks him. Our hero decides to send his wife to her folks and roams the street looking for his past. Suddenly a blonde woman pulls him off the streets . At her place she reveals that he's wanted for murder. 40's movie.(Not that well-known, i admit.) Emgee66
The woman claims they're engaged . She works for a rich family and takes care of an old woman who can't speak but communicates by blinking her eyes. it turns out she witnessed the murder. Lead actress won an Oscar for a later actor; male lead a well known character actor, to most people because of a role he played when in his seventies. Terrence1
Wow! I always feel totally surprised when I can answer one of your puzzles, Lavender. You know how much I love your entries. OK. Here's one. A husband is surprised to learn that a woman that he has dealt with on the sly has become acquainted with his wife. When he asks his wife what they talked about, her reply is, "Oh, nothing important--just sex!" Name the movie, and the actors playing the husband and wife. Good luck.
