Kid Dabb
You Can't Take it with You (1938) received two Academy Awards: Best Picture & Best Director (Frank Capra), beating out this gangster film with a bunch of "Kids". What is this gangster film?

What is this gangster film? If you are thinking about Dead End, that was nominated the previous year (1937). The only 1938 best picture nominee with kids was Boys Town, which had a gangster sub-plot. "Kids" Angels with Dirty Faces (1938) with the East Side Kids Yeah, "Kids"; that's what made me think you meant Dead End, the first appearance of the Dead End Kids. The great Angels with Dirty Faces unfortunately was not up for Best Picture. It received nominations for actor, director and writing.
Kid Dabb
I incorrectly referenced the film Angels with.. instead of it's director, Michael Curtiz, who lost Best Director to Frank Capra with You Can't Take it.. I'll try to be more clear in the future Your thread

He received a very rare two directorial nominations for Angels With Dirty Faces and Four Daughters. He could have gotten a third for what many would say was his best effort that year, The Adventures of Robin Hood. OK. In this bio pic the father doesn't see the potential in his teenage son, and is constantly telling him to take his hands out of his pockets. starliteyes
This film introduced a Christmas song which became a hit before the film was released. Because of that the studio called the stars back to re-shoot a more elaborate version of the song.

Terrence1
Thanks, Starlit. When the film rights to this Broadway show were purchased, a lot of actresses were very much interested in playing the lead. Many of them were involved in aggressive campaigns to get this lead. When it was announced who would play the lead, there were many who voiced their disapproval, saying that she was not right for the role. It turned out that this role was the acting triumph for her. Name the actress and the movie.
