I've got a great idea for Warner Home Video. How about a two-disc special edition of Cabin in the Sky and one of the extra bonus features could be a Lena Horne commentary and interview with Robert Osborne. I was kinda hesitant about posting this with it seeming I jinxed on my King Kong idea and then Fay Wray passing two days later but I'm not a stuperstitious person. Please don't let anything happen to Ms. Horne. They could also include the Ted Turner colorized version since I think there would be disc space to spare for this movie although the main feature would be an original restored version. Would make for a good comparison.

Don't tell me they colorized Cabin in the Sky-can hardly believe it. That must have had Minnelli spinning in his grave. Minnelli pictures were stunning he took great pains to capture a look with what he had to work with I mean B&W film and film in color I can hardly believe that they colorized it. Other than that (maybe they can leave off the colorized version) I support your idea. The King Kong and Fay Wray idea sounds good to just so sorry we had to lose Fay.

Although CABIN IN THE SKY is good musical with a great cast, I don't see this film as worthy of a 2 disc special edition. WB has so many great films in their library. CABIN is certainly not in the class of Minnelli's AN AMERICAN IN PARIS or THE BAND WAGON which have upcoming special editions. However, it would be nice to hear Ms. Horne's observations on making this first Minnelli film with a one-disc release. I know she did not get along at all with Ethel Waters, who was jealous of newcomer Horne so I don't know how many pleasant memories Horne has of this film. As for colorization UGH and I don't think CABIN was ever colorized! BTW Oscar winner GIGI is much more worthy than CABIN and needs a special edition with two of its stars still alive: Leslie Caron and Louis Jourdan.

Wow - I didn't even know Louis Jordan was still alive - I agree about getting a Special Edition of "Gigi" with these two stars commenting.

As for "Cabin" - it's one of my all time favorite movies, and I'd just be happy if they put it on DVD, let alone as a Collector's Edition - although it's a great idea. And I think it would be fun hearing Ms. Horne's comments, especially since she and Ethel Waters didn't get along - I'd like to hear how she feels about it at this point in her life. But I think that movie is awesome, and was exceptionally done. Minnelli was way ahead of his time - he had an incredible style and attention to detail - just the scene where he comes in over the crowd in the nightclub, and right up to Duke Ellington at the piano - and the whole cast is top notch. You know, there's at least two deleted numbers from that movie - one was in "That's Entertainment 3" but on the CD soundtrack to the movie there's at least one or two more - they would be great to see on a DVD release. Hopefully someone from Warner's visits this forum! I know if they did they'd get plenty of good ideas from all of us.

Mark me down as another fan of Cabin in the Sky. The racial stereotyping in the film is sometimes embarrassing, but it's still a great musical. It's got terrific songs like "Happiness is Just a Thing Called Joe," wonderfully vivid directing and set design by Vincent Minnelli, as well as one of the most amazing casts in musical history - Ethel Waters, Lena Horne, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, the spectacular dancer John "Bubbles" Sublett, and many more.

Unfortunately, those great African-American performers got few chances to show their stuff in movie musicals. This was one of their few opportunities to really shine.

If you've never seen this one, you should definitely catch it next time it's on.
