I just discovered why tcm hasn't premiered john gilberts first talkie his glorious night the movie was such a flop that mgm sold it to paramount and later they remade it with sophia loren and john gavin and maurice chevalier a breath of scandal since this is a better version it's obviouly that mca dont want to release first version on home video dvd because it would make there remake look bad or so that might be the reason thats still greedy they too hord their classic too

mike, I have a question for you. Why can't you stay to one thread? You started the other Gilbert thread here today, and instead of following up on the posts there, you started a brand new one. In that one, you accused Time Warner of greed and not wanting to rock the "status Qoa" as you put it because they wouldn't let TCM show the fillm. Now that gagman has let you know that the film is owned by Paramount, you are dropping that thread and starting a new one here accusing Universal of greed for not letting TCM play it. LOL, give it up.

Nothing to do with quality, son. It's just that in general MCA/Universal doesn't care a crap about their older movies unless there are monsters in them.

And the Gilbert movie's performance at the box-office had little or nothing to do with MGM selling it to Paramount. That would have happened years later when Paramount acquired it in order to to remake it.
