MovieProfessor
>myidolspencer you asked: > This goes back to NATALIE WOOD & same question I posed then-(plus in "M. Morlocks") But, with no answer? 1st, whom dubbed hr singing in "Daisy Clover" & a brief # in "The Great Race" I found out it was a singer named JACKIE HARRIS. The person you are referring to is Jackie Ward, a.k.a. Robin Ward that was her somewhat used professional name. Jackie was nothing more than a singer, who had started out well enough during the 1950s. She began her work in the recording phase of show business as a teenager, working for various record companies in and around Hollywood. This led to a series of attempts to break into the mainstream, big leagues of the music industry. Contrary to rumors and reports about her early professional life, Jackie was never on a course to become a film star, but a musical one. It was in television, on local L.A. channels, where Jackie began to make her mark to become an accomplished singer. But, as the years wore on and little, if anything of a good break came, she supplemented her singing career by working in commercials and as a backup singer. It?s as a backup that Jackie became a renowned individual, among the various established music stars of the recording industry. She worked with just about everybody, who was anybody! Jackie could be seen a couple hours working at one studio and then she would whist off to another. She practically worked non-stop. All along the way of this hectic schedule in her life, she naturally had to end up in the motion picture business. It didn?t take long for Jackie to acquire a good and solid reputation in movies. Her voice-over and dubbing work is amazing. It?s been listed that she worked throughout her career in over 800 projects. Most of these were in television, with about two dozen or so movies. In between all that was happening, Jackie still held on to her dream of becoming a singing star. Well, a little luck came her way, when in 1963, she signed on with Dot Records and suddenly Jackie had one of the hit tunes in the country, ?Wonderful Summer.? The record and its companion album sold big. But, what appeared to finally be Jackie?s big break didn?t lead to anything else. The problem may have been the changes brought on by the new wave of music coming from across the Atlantic Ocean . . . Need I say their names? The other factor may have been that Jackie wasn?t so physically attractive and lacked a bit of the beauty allure that some singers are able to utilize. She would forever be labeled what they call in the music industry, a ?one hit wonder.? In the long run, Jackie?s only one shinning moment didn?t alter her having become a respected professional of the music business. Jackie has probably done more work in music than television and films. After what could be considered a celebrated career in the high ranks of the music industry, Jackie retired in 1979. She has no regrets, nor can she ever really say it wasn?t worth all the time and effort. Jackie would be the first to say, ?Just keep punching in there.? Well, she did and there?s nothing to be a shamed of, when you?ve worked as long and hard as she did.
