From Broadway to Hollywood

This non-musical Broadway play starred an actress who had never had a significant role in a film , but would soon become a major film star. When the play was made into a musical film several years later, this actress was never strongly considered for the lead female role, even though she had become a major film star by the time the film was made.. Name of play and film? Actress?

One/half of a famed vaudeville act that went all the way to Broadway, this performer later became a character actor at a major studio. He reprised his great Broadway act (with another character actor, as his original partner was dead) at that studio in a musical all about Broadway in the early 40's.

This actor had parallel careers on Broadway and in Hollywood. However, he made it far bigger on Broadway, in which he starred in several important musicals. On screen, he was almost exclusively a supporting player, with one notable '30s exception.

This guy choreographed on Broadway for Ziggy and others--doing 3 big hits, but when the hits came to Hollywood, he wasn't hired.

But he did ok anyway. He choregraphed in "A" productions for Columbia, MGM, Fox and WB. Some of the musicals were just for fun, while at least 3 are considered to be landmark musicals. He primarily worked in the 30's and 40's.

I think that Busby Berkeley would be a good guess--but this choreographer only had 3 landmark musicals--Berkeley had many.

Also Berkeley worked on at least one show by Ziegfeld that was on Broadway and in the movies.
