allaboutlana
Thanks. Next: Carole Lombard, Irene Dunne, Ginger Rogers, Rosalind Russell hint: the common denominator is not in their personal lives, but by a certain costar Edited by: allaboutlana on Jun 17, 2011 9:43 AM
DownGoesFrazier
Either that they all co-starred with Cary Grant, or that they all appeared in films in which they talked fast.
allaboutlana
No, he's not the costar I'm looking for.
DownGoesFrazier
William Powell or Randolph Scott?
allaboutlana
Nope. This actor found more success on the stage in his later years and was so well liked by his peers, that he was awarded an honorary Oscar in 1987.
DownGoesFrazier
Ralph Bellamy?
allaboutlana
Yes. To be precise, I was looking for the fact that Ralph lost all of them to the male lead: Grant, MacMurray, and Astaire. Today was in fact Ralph Bellamy's birthday. Thanks for playing!
DownGoesFrazier
Audrey Hepburn, Janet Leigh, Natalie Wood
cujas
Primarily dramatic stars who starred in 3 top singing and dancing musicals--*Funny Face*, *Bye-Bye Birdie* and *West Side Story*.
mudskipper
All three appeared in at least one movie with their husbands... Audrey Hepburn and Mel Ferrer in "War And Peace" Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis in "Houdini" Natalie Wood and Robert Wagner in "All The Fine Young Cannibals"
DownGoesFrazier
Unfortunately, ms, I'm looking for something a little more difficult than that. Many actresses appeared in films with their current husbands. What I'm thinking of is a little more unique to these three actresses. Hint: For each actress, look at her entire body of film work. DownGoesFrazier
Hint: A film which was on TCM in the past few days should provide a good starting point for answering this question.
MilesArcher
They all played victims of psychpaths, Audrey in "Wait Until Dark", Janet in "Psycho" and Natalie in "A Cry In The Night".
DownGoesFrazier
Again, many actresses played victims of psychopaths. What I'm looking for is more unique to the 3 of them. Big hint: Think music
DownGoesFrazier
Another hint: Think "singing"
allaboutlana
I was going to guess yesterday that Marni Nixon supplied the singing voices for them, but I could not find where Ms. Nixon dubbed for Ms. Leigh. I found Pepe, just now. The others are My Fair Lady and West Side Story. Is that it? Edited by: allaboutlana on Jun 21, 2011 4:50 PM
DownGoesFrazier
No, but you're on the right track. Forget about who dubbed voices. It's not relevant. Edited by: finance on Jun 21, 2011 6:28 PM
FanofCary
They all replaced actresses who were nominated for a Tony in the role in which the Hollywood actress played on screen. Audrey Hepburn replaced Julie Andrews in My Fair Lady Janet Leigh replaced Chita Rivera in Bye Bye Birdie Natalie Wood replace Carol Lawrence in West Side Story
DownGoesFrazier
No. I said that Lana was on the right track. Follow the "dubbing" clue.
DownGoesFrazier
OK, the thread goes to Lana. Actresses whose singing was dubbed by Marni Nixon is a small enough universe that this answer cannot be rejected........ What I was shooting for was that Hepburn, Leigh, and Wood all did their own singing in at least one film, and were dubbed in at least one film. I figured that would be difficult. allaboutlana
Thanks. Next: Myrna Loy, Edward G. Robinson, Eli Wallach
Terrence1
Finance, I'm curious about something. In which movie was Janet Leigh's voice dubbed? Also, in which movie did Natalie Wood do her own singing? Thanks. Terrence.
