chesterkent
Can someone tell me why Frank Craven received third billing in this film. He plays an oldtimer but vanishes early in the film. I think it must have been because of his part in writing the screenplay but it seems unusual to me. Thanks for any assistance. I've wondered about this for years
chesterkent
Sorry to bother you folks. Turns out that the prints I've seen are based on a 1948 re-issue. These chop out most of oldtimers scenes but TCM has shown a more complete version. Promise to do my research better
Ray Faiola
When the picture was released in 1940, Cagney sent a letter of apology to the novel's author because he felt the story received short-shrift in the screen translation. Imagine how he must have felt when Warners mutilated the film for the reissue!
