I'm in college now, and studying for a degree in Film Studies, which I think would be closest to Film History (Film Studies has to do with film criticism, history,etc.). But I guess you would have to study hard, as mentioned, and somehow find a job with a company that uses them. I tend to think of the occupation as more of a self-employed one, only because there aren't many companies that are looking for film historians. It is such a tough field to break into.
