midnight08
Lew Ayres starred in quite a few Universal movies during the early and mid 1930's so I assume he had a contract with them.
midnight08
Also thought of the horror movie stars such as Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi and Lon Chaney (both Sr. and Jr.).
MyFavoriteFilms
Thank you midnight for your comments. Can't believe I missed Bela and Boris! I just looked up information on Lew Ayres. According to Robert Parish, Ayres made films for Universal from 1930 to 1934. These include, in order: ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT EAST IS WEST IRON MAN UP FOR MURDER MANY A SLIP SPIRIT OF NOTRE DAME HEAVEN ON EARTH IMPATIENT MAIDEN NIGHT WORLD OKAY AMERICA! DON'T BET ON LOVE CROSS COUNTRY CRUISE LET'S BE RITZY Then it looks like he went to Paramount for awhile, before inking a deal with MGM in '38 and starting the KILDARE series. Arturo
You also missed three popular Universal stars in the 40s: Jon Hall Susannah Foster and the incomparable Mar?a Montez
Jayo
Who's Robert Parish? There's a director, but he's Robert Parrish. Then there's the prolific author, James Robert Parish. As both have written books, not only would I like to know which author, but which book. Thank you very much.
Arturo
Ann Sheridan worked at Universal in the first half of the 50s, one of many then fading 40s stars to do so (as your original list bears out).

PrinceSaliano
One of the reasons why I love Universal "Bs" of the 40s is their casts...Anne Nagel, Anne Gwynne, Evelyn Ankers, Elyse Knox, Constance Moore, Patric Knowles, Robert Paige, David Bruce, Alan Curtis, Samuel S. Hinds, et al.
musicalnovelty
Phyllis Crane - at Universal 1935 - 1937.
MyFavoriteFilms
I meant the author James Robert Parish. When I looked up Ayres, I used a book called 'The Golden Era: the MGM Stock Company.' I knew Ayres had an MGM contract. A biography is given and a complete filmography. Using Ayres' filmography in this book, I could see which films he did for Universal and when.

In fact, Fuzzy Knight probably played in more Universal Pictures than anyone else due to the 'B' westerns.
