bansi4
I just read about Selznick finally getting his star on the Walk of Fame. His son Daniel was present along with Ann Rutherford (Scarlett's sister Carreen) and Cammie King (Scarlett's daughter Bonnie Blue). Statements sent from his widow Jennifer Jones, Olivia de Havilland and Rhonda Fleming were read at the event. I just wonder if the ghost of Robert Walker was present? moviejoe79
Isn't it true that Selznick stole Jennifer Jones away from Robert Walker? I don't know that story - would love to know though. And I wish Jennifer Jones would do more - interviews, appearances - anything. The last time we saw her was at the Academy Awards when they rounded up all of the past winners. She looked great, so I don't know why she's so out of sight. And Louis B. Mayer's daughter Irene (deceased) was married to Selznick as well. There is a lot of info about her in Scott Berg's book about Katharine Hepburn "Kate Remembered" - he was good friends with Ms. Selznick, and speaks about her in detail - interesting stuff. gwtwbooklover
moviejoe there is a wee bit about Selznick and Jones on Walkers biography on the IMDB website. I learned there that Robert WAlker Jr.'s mother is Jennifer Jones. Walker SR. married Jennifer when he was only 19 so I can see how it hurt like heck. Married her just a year after meeting her. However I do know one can get over the hurt of divorce. It didn't say who was Michael Walker mother WAlker SR's other son. So did Walker ever marry again. gwtwbooklover
Now I have a ? is the walk of fame different from the Graumann's Chinese theatre where they dip their hands in and write their signature? I know this might sound like a stupid question but I'm unclear. I guess it isn't since it was started in the 60s but is it an extension of the cememt dip(if you will) are they related. Do they do the Graumann's Chinese theatre thing anymore. Are they located near to each other ....thanks for the info
moviejoe79
gwtw - The Hollywood Walk of Fame is located in front of and all around Grauman's Chinese Theater. They are two separate things - the cement prints started in the 20's when Constance Talmadge accidentally stepped in wet cement, and Sid Grauman then had his brainstorm of an idea to have other stars do the same. You're right that the walk of fame did start later on, and is now very long, and extends along a few different streets in the Hollywood area. I don't know if they still do the cement prints, but when I was there back in April I did see some newer names - I think Tom Cruise was even there - along with all of the classic stars. Seeing all of the classic stars prints and signatures is a real thrill though. It's really fascinating.
gwtwbooklover
moviejoe79 does some stars have the footprints and a star also?
spencerl964
Good goin' to moviejoe, some excellent jazz there on it's inception & history! I forgot something that makes this seem even more belated ridiculous? *Selznick, was even married to L.B. Mayer's daughter & I think this was his main reason for finally nudging his way into & also finally getting his own studio eventually M-G-M-(as most know *"GWTW," was not actually an Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film altogether) *Selznick had to pay them for: *"The King: Gable"-(of which as per usual for him, he didn't at 1st want to even play Rhett Butler. & he also made the error of not getting % of it's latter profits & straight-salary) I say per-usual, because *Gable also didn't want to play Fletcher Christian & mostly his sole ACADEMY AWARD winning role of Peter Warne in '34's *"It Happened 0ne Night"-(being sent to Columbia back then was punishment) So it's even a lot more strange, when we consider *Selznick was L.B.'s nephew & still didn't get a STAR? However you are correct in that the "W-O-F" does go down 1 street from Hollywood, Blvd. That 1 street ironically is Vine-(where *Clark has his. As well as Rita Hayworth & even further down Vine, they finally gave "The 3 Stooges," a STAR??? But in 1988-(only Joe Besser was present) Actually their STAR is just about as far down Vine as it goes-(just past Selma, Blvd & Vine) They still-(though rarely, do the cement bit) Strangest of all in cement is *John Wayne-(his footprint's were accurate too? It was strange they were so-small, then i recalled seeing him soak them on set of "Rooster Cogburn" *"The Duke," was 6'4 & 1/2 and shoe size 5 & 1/2?) moviejoe79
Thanks Spence for shedding more light on the prints and Walk of Fame. I couldn't remember what streets the Walk of Fame went down, since I really didn't have time to walk it. And gwtw - None of the stars have prints as well - They're two separate things. The prints are in the courtyard of the Chinese Theater, and the Walk starts on the sidewalk in front of it, and then extends down Hollywood Blvd. and Vine, as Spence mentioned. gwtwbooklover
Yes, thanks spence and moviejoe for the info. When I first read harlowkeatongirl's post I thouhgt maybe he had refused the WOF. Which would explain why he didn't have one. I read in Lauren Bacall's book that she refused either the dip in the cement or the WOF(can't remember which) I wonder does she have a star? I can't find it in my book now which is very frustrating. She thought either the dip or the WOF fame was being handed out to just everyone and anyone so she was reluntant to join the group. With Bogie's support she politely declined and I was wondering if she has since relented and for that matter does Bogie have one?
carolelombard01
Hey, I was just in Hollywood this weekend, and i don't remember running into David Selznick's star. Does anyone know the address where it's located along the Walk of Fame? The handprints are my favorite, of course I got Clark Gable's on camera. carolelombard01
Moviejoe79--Clark Gable has his handprints and footprints in the courtyard at Mann's. He was the 33rd person to get his. It's up front near the ticket booth and it says: "To Sid wo is a great guy...Clark Gable, 1937" No one else from GWTW has their prints, but I know Vivien Leigh has a star on the Walk of Fame. brackenhe
Doesn't just about anyone in entertainment, who can come up with the funds, get a star on the walk of fame? I was in LA in 1998 and we went to the Chinese theater as well as the Roosevelt Hotel and the Walk of Fame area around Hollywood and Vine (a very touristy thing to do, I admit.) On that day, musician Kenny G was getting a star. So I'm not really impressed by the whole thing.

evh55
I saw an interview with Johnny Grant (the unofficial mayor of Hollywood) where he explained the process involved in getting a star on the WOF. The person themselves really don't have anything to do with it. A fan club or society must petition the WOF and pay for the star to be installed. If the person is selected for that year, then the star itself is made and a spot for its installation is decided upon. That's when you see the ceremony of the unveiling of the star. You can get a star for contributions for different aspects of the entertainment industry such as movies, radio, TV, etc. That's why you see people like Kenny G getting a star. If my memory serves me, Bob Hope has the most stars, with ones for movies, TV and radio. These are all different stars at different locations.BTW, there is a set procedure for cleaning these stars. You must use certain types of cleaning products and brushes to do the job because it is very easy to ruin the star itself. There are groups of people who go down each week to clean off the star of one of their favorites, like Bette Davis or Clark Gable. But there are a number of them that are overlooked. spencerl964
To evh55, hope you even get to read this repy TO TCM editing team, etc Someone is really, really, messing up, again & BIG-TIME!!! I attempted a couple days ago to post an article-(sent bye, bye) & now on another topic-(bye, bye???) PLEASE, PLEASE, FORWARD THIS COMPLAINT TO SUPERVISING TEAM! If the tv station were like this, we would never see anything. However, I know what you were citing about Honorary Mayor: Johnny Grant-(as i cited he gave imself aStar in front of doorway leading up to his office-(squeezed in between "Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel" and another building-(actually, his office looked like an attorney's office?) & Michelle Pfeiffer's-(1957-) own fan-club is doing a fund raising drive in order for her to even get 1 single Star? & it doesn't always have club or society to do so though. Example, when *Hanks had a new film coming-up, the put hisStar in frt of "Roosevelt" "EW"-magazine used to briefly have a weekly series on CNN & they virtually racked Mr. Grant over the coals for the $15,000 item-(he was sweating bullets) After all, whom & how did Hollywood Chamber ofCommerce put in the first 200 or so in 1960. The inception of the WOF-(most posthumously) I wrote of this before. Mostly tourists' from Europe will actually & firmly believe said celebrity is laid to rest under it's Star? Plus, although Johnny Grant, is a politician-(& behaves like one. Actually, he would be a good guest for "Pvt. Screenings!" To his defense & as the man said on that "EW" special. They must get permission from store owner before tearing-up cement, to even install another one. You almost hit it trivia wise with: Hope having the most. Gene Autry has 5 Stars & that is the most anyone can get. I recall upon my first visit, an older hobo & with no-legs no-less, was cleaning the Stars. I told him where *Tracy's was & he said he'd get to it soon. Years ago-(1979/80) there was an eldery ldy of whom religously cleaned both: *Spencer's & *Bing Crosby's Star! Mitchum's Star was getting faded.
gwtwbooklover
Does Lauren Bacall have a star on the WOF?-anyone?
gwtwbooklover
Well, I did some checking and apparently Bacall and Bogart have a star on the WOF. When did the appear in person rule start? or the raising of fees for the star start? I think if I were Bacall I'd rather have stuck my hands in the cement then the WOF. Can someone pay the fee for the star but the Star to which is being honored refuse the star? Has this happened? And if so who was it?
bunderw170
gwtwbooklover, Jennifer Jones and Robert Walker had two sons in two years, I think 1940 and 1941. I think I read that Robert Walker married Barbara Ford, the daughter of director John Ford, after the divorce. I don't think this lasted, and a few years later he was dead. Jennifer Jones and David Selznick had a daughter, who sadly jumped off a roof to her death at age 23. BLU
