Trilogies are tough too choose from, but I'd say the third LOTR and the first Pirates of the Caribbean.
MissGoddess
Gee, Tall T, I didn't know you'd fall for *Born Free*. You are just a sentimentalist at heart, aren't you? And Gladiator, too? . How I wish Crowe could make another like that one.
fxreyman
Hey Maven! Well, I'd really like to know *what* was in *your* drinks last night!! Nice list. Thanks for saying that I have some "klassy" and important films on my list. Although I am sure FredCDobbs would pick this list apart because as he believes no good film was made after 1960. So in honor of what you have attempted with your own list off of my list of favorites I will now select what I consider to be my favorite film from 1960 to the present. I am including my list once again but with the favorite film highlighted in bold from each year. IMHO of course. It's interesting to read the movies you picked. Hi Wendy, and thanks for your kind words! I agree to a certain extent that my tastes overall tend to gravitate toward more masculine tastes. But really when you do look over my ten films from each year that I have listed, I think overall my favorites tend be less masculine and more objective and that would include listing films that would not be considered masculine. Although I do tend to like films that have logical story lines and or are in fact based somewhat on fact, or are realistic in depictions of certain events. That is why you will find many historical, non-fiction like films on my list. Now the hard part to come. I need to go back and select my top ten favorite films from 1930 up to 1959. A much harder list to prepare.

JackFavell
Some of these couples wouldn't even be on my list a few years ago - I discovered a lot of good 1950's movies thanks to you.

JackFavell
Some of your list really surprises me. I knew that Lazylegs and Johnny would be up there, high on the list , but these are the ones that totally caught me off guard: >13. Adam Belinski (Charles Boyer) and Cluny Brown (Jennifer Jones) in *Cluny Brown* > >14. Bill Chandler (William Powell) and Connie Allenbury (Myrna Loy) in *Libeled Lady* > >26. Joe Adams (Cary Grant) and Dorothy Bryant (Laraine Day) in *Mr. Lucky* > >30. Gogo (Gary Cooper) and Mimsey (Ann Harding) in *Peter Ibbetson* > >36. Joe Carter (Joel McCrea) and Connie Milligan (Jean Arthur) in *The More the Merrier* > >42. Dan (William Powell) and Joan (Kay Francis) in *One Way Passage* > >48. C.K. Dexter Haven (Cary Grant) and Tracy Lord (Katharine Hepburn) in *The Philadelphia Story* TWO Charles Boyer movies make your list! And some William Powell as well... See, we aren't as different as I thought. I'm so pleased that *Mr. Lucky* made the list - here are the others from your list that I wish I had put on mine: >8. Richard Hannay (Robert Donat) and Pamela (Madeleine Carroll) in *The 39 Steps* > >9. David (Robert Montgomery) and Ann (Carole Lombard) in *Mr. and Mrs. Smith* > >13. Adam Belinski (Charles Boyer) and Cluny Brown (Jennifer Jones) in *Cluny Brown* > >14. Bill Chandler (William Powell) and Connie Allenbury (Myrna Loy) in *Libeled Lady* > >17. Maurice Courtelin (Maurice Chevalier) and Princess Jeanette (Jeanette MacDonald) in >*Love Me Tonight* > >20. Walter Burns (Cary Grant) and Hildy Johnson (Rosalind Russell) in *His Girl Friday* > >26. Joe Adams (Cary Grant) and Dorothy Bryant (Laraine Day) in *Mr. Lucky* > >36. Joe Carter (Joel McCrea) and Connie Milligan (Jean Arthur) in *The More the Merrier* > >42. Dan (William Powell) and Joan (Kay Francis) in *One Way Passage* > >45. Fred Derry (Dana Andrews) and Peggy Stephenson (Teresa Wright ) in *The Best Years >of Our Lives* > >48. C.K. MissGoddess
That's a terrific list, Mr. Grimes. Looks like you, too, had a surplus of couples. You include MANY that I should have as well. I didn't even think of Cluny and I had in mind but still forgot to include Gary and Marlene, Boyer and Bergman in *Arch of Triumph* (also I wanted to put Boyer and Hedy in Algiers) as well as: *One-Way Passage*, Mr & Mrs Smith, Frank and Janet and Mitch and Janet. How stupid of me. Great, great choices! More: Elizabeth and Rock in *Giant* Rock and Doris in Lover Come Back!, Send Me No Flowers and *Pillow Talk* Frank and Natalie in *Kings Go Forth* (kick me now) Frank and my messed up Lee in *The Detective* Julie and Omar in *The Tamarind Seed* Natalie and Steve McQueen in *Love with the Proper Stranger* Orson and Joan in *Jane Eyre* (I'm going to see the new version soon, we'll see if it lives up to the rave reviews) Sean and messed up Tippi in *Marnie* Bobby and Maureen in *Hide Out* Jimmy and Corrinne in *The Far Country* Duke and Pat Neal in *In Harm's Way* (this relationship makes the entire movie worth watching for me. It's almost a direct reprise of Rusty and Sandy in They Were Expendable, except as if they had met in maturity instead of youth) Deborah and Burt in *From Here to Eternity* Carole and Jack in *Twentieth Century* (I think it's cute you included Carole and Preston from Love Before Breakfast --- they are suprisingly good together)
