"Separate Tables" Feb. 4

Recommended Posts

I'd been wanting to see this movie for years and it was worth the wait. There isn't a bad performance in the lot. David Niven truly deserved his Oscar; I had no idea there was so much dramatic talent under what was usually a drawing room comedy persona. The make up people for Deborah Kerr and him did fantastic jobs. You shouldn't have cared about Rita Hayworth's Ann but you did. Wendy Hiller's Pat was a woman of honesty and dignity and you saw her as such and not a victim of a triangle. Snobbish old crones Gladys Cooper and Cathleen Nesbit were marvelously nasty and Burt Lancaster held his own with all these British stars. I didn't expect to really like it but did and want to see it again. Thank you, TCM

Glady's Cooper always plays that type of overbearing mother well. She also did great in Now Voyager.

Although I didn't see Cathleen Nesbit as so much playing a snob but someone who couldn't stand up to Cooper.

Kerr was marvelous and I am sorry she never won a competitive Oscar. One of the Academy's many mistakes.

The more I watch of Wendy Hiller the more I love her too. She is another actress I would love to see for 2011 SUTS.
